ZiPS Bidding System

Post by Cardinals »

We're going to do something a bit different this year. We're going to do a bidding system with ZiPS projected players.

Each team will receive a $30 budget for the ENTIRE offseason. As soon as FanGraphs releases a batch of ZiPS projections, each player will be on waivers for 24 hours.

If the 24 hours passes and a player does not receive a bid, he is then a free agent and can be signed normally.

Bidding on a player will end 24 hours after the last bid. This will prevent sniping.

We will set up a forum to post players to bid on. It'll be done in the forum to have 100% transparency.

If you want to bid on a player, post a thread with the player's name as the subject and then an opening bid.

This is awesome. Great job guys. I would have one request. When Zips are released for a team, perhaps a thread can be posted by ExCo about that team's Zips - with a link to the page so everyone can access view. That way there's a formal announcement of that team's zips being released.

Cheers.

...edit.. some kind of announcement that a new zips has been posted.. Can be whatever, but I think this might be helpful for some of us.

Maybe someone will be up for volunteering for this but you can consider a bid to the the equivalent of that announcement.

Whole dollar increments.

Haven't discussed trading - they're not in OOPSS currently and Shawn would have to build that out. So for now, no.

Just to be clear, is a bid of $0 legal? Essentially making a claim on the player while the bidding window is still open.

Correct. And if two teams tie with the highest bid for a player, the lower waiver priority team will be awarded that player.

A team can bid between $0 and $30 on any player as long as that team has the amount of bidding money available in their zips budget.

If a team overcommits its budget (ie: has $10 remaining and bids $10 on two individual players, for $20 worth of bids), the player whose auction ends first will be awarded to that team if it is the high bidder at $10. If that results in the second $10 bid being nullified, the runner-up team will be awarded that player.

Fair enough!

Again, kudos guys.. this system sounds fair.. and even better.. it sounds fun. A little added activity to the offseason. Maybe it works flawlessly, maybe it needs some adjustments and tinkering going forward, but its a *fantastic* step in the right direction - and I just want to say I appreciate it.

sounds complicated, best of luck to the ExCo managing it

REMINDER: It appears ZiPs will begin being released tomorrow, per ZiPSman Szymbrowski's tweeting. Reminder that any ZIPS-related pickups must go through the established ZiPS bidding process that has been developed for this year. We will post ZIPs upon release to the Transactions page.

So, we're going to start the signing freeze for individual teams and ZiPS starting on the minute ZiPS man tweets his comp spreadsheet.

The clock will still expire 24 hours after last bid on a player, OR 24 hours after FanGraphs posts the projections (if nobody has bid on a player).

Can you email the ZiPs spreadsheet to the league?

Sure, I can start doing that.

The comp sheet is just this, though: https://twitter.com/DSzymborski/status/ ... 1632171008

So wouldn't this make the last two signings invalid as Belisle and Rzepcynski were both signed after his tweet at 1:13 AM yesterday?

It would, but the rule just went in now. I don't feel comfortable making them release players. It is pretty lame to circumvent the spirit of our rule, but we'll do it like this going forward and the two relievers can stay on their respective team.

I never looked at the comps (which are generally useless), just saw the Nationals were the first team up and researched their end of season roster.

I just wanted to reiterate this, since it was brought up today in a question to me privately.

After viewtopic.php?p=60888#60888 I'm wondering whether the freeze should apply to all players on the team or just those in the depth chart image.

Pretty sure it wasn't the depth chart image. The freeze is supposed to start when Zippy posts the first comp sheet.
