I'd like to propose a rule that we require H2H play in future postseasons.
Having the computer manage an elimination game as if it were a regular season game kind of cheapens all of our other considerable efforts at realism.
For example, Game 3 of my ALDS series with Seattle this season. SP Jared Cosart gives up a 2B a WP and a HR to allow Seattle to cut a 3-0 lead to 3-2. He is left in the game and gives up, in succession BB, 1B, BB, BB, 2B:
Code: Select all
************** Bottom of the 4th inning, Mariners batting
3-0 0 --- 02 Miller,B grounded out to third (FCX)
3-0 1 --- 00 Dietrich lined a double to right center (X)
3-0 1 -2- 00 Vogt allowed a passed ball, Dietrich to third (B)
3-0 1 --3 11 Cosart threw a wild pitch, Dietrich scored (B.SB)
3-1 1 --- 22 Abreu homered deep down the left-field line (B.SB.FFX)
3-2 1 --- 31 Dickerson,Co flied out to left (BBCBX)
3-2 2 --- 30 Morales,K walked (BBBB)
3-2 2 1-- 11 Wieters lined a single up the middle, Morales,K to second
(SBX)
3-2 2 12- 31 Buxton walked, Morales,K to third, Wieters to second
(BBBCB)
3-2 2 123 31 Headley walked, Morales,K scored, Wieters to third,
Buxton to second (BSBBB)
3-3 2 123 00 Arcia,Or lined a double to right center, Wieters scored,
Buxton scored, Headley scored (X)
Rodney now pitching
3-6 2 -2- 12 Miller,B flied out to right (CBCX)
If we require teams to play all postseason series H2H, worst case scenario is probably someone is very busy and we have to wait a week. If you can't find the time to sim the games over a 2 week span, then you can appoint another GM to manage the game for you. We could probably allow exceptions for international travel or a death in the family or something, but going forward I think this is an easy rule to implement that improves the experience and isn't likely to cause any controversy down the line.
Thoughts?
