Pick trading

Post by Royals »

I've been asked when a GM can start trading picks. is it when the whole draft is over or is it when that GM finishes drafting. We have 5 rounds set up, but there is the option of GM's continuing to draft after 5 (some will certainly want to). others will be done ofter 5 or sooner.
I'm not sure what we did last year but I think we allowed Gm's who had finished drafting, and declared that, to trade their drafted players.
Thoughts?

That sounds about right. Also we should remind the league that people need to declare when they are dropping out, which they can do at any time. Once you're out you can trade drafted players is I'm 99% sure how it was last year.

I thought we said once you take a guy you can trade him. There's absolutely no point in limiting trading of already taken players.

I remember we had the opposite decision, the reason that we made it so you had to hold players until you were done drafting was to discourage de facto pick trading where one GM has another GM make the pick for him.

This is what cost me a draft choice this year.... the rule actually wasn't changed.

Good enough reason for me I guess.

Are we sticking with last year's ruling then? No pick trading until you're done with the draft and officially declare so?

I'll hold off on posting anything for a while just in case Jim or Brett have anything to add that might change the course of discussion.

I agree ... I would state it slightly differently, i.e., no trading of drafted players until that team has announced it is done drafting this year.
