The other Miggy is traded (in real life)

Post by Padres »

Two years after he first suggested that he'd benefit from a change of scenery, Orioles shortstop Miguel Tejada finally got his wish as he was traded to the Houston Astros today in president of baseball operations Andy MacPhail's boldest move to date.

In return for the four-time All-Star, the Orioles will get outfielder Luke Scott, pitchers Matt Albers, Troy Patton and Dennis Sarfate, and third baseman Michael Costanzo.

Nice job Andy MacPhail! At the absolute low point of Tejada's trade value he just got 5 guys who will contribute to a major league baseball team.

Albers is a legitimate back-of-the-rotation innings-eater w/ some upside. Patton is a legitimate middle of the roation starter w/ upside. Luke Scott is a very underrated outfielder who, in scattered at-bats, posted an .855 ops. Sarfate will jump right into the Orioles pen as a contributor, and Costanzo is a legit power prospect.

Sometimes I realize that a pu pu platter is not the way to go for a player, but I can't imagine on what galaxy the O's would get this type of return (definitely 4, potentially 5 contributors for next year).

Anytime you can trade away an aging vet for some younger pieces seems like a win. Nice trade for the Orioles.

Also, if we want to be technical, in just about any category you can find, the Orioles picked up the best hitter in this deal.

Shouldn't Houston be rebuilding?

Guess they had to do something to combat the Cubs signing of Fukudome.

AL Central is so bad, the Pirates have hope.

but with the Cubs & Brewers on the upswing, and the Reds and their farm, the Astros should be rebuilding...and should deal Berkman.
