Drafting Begins

Post by Dodgers »

I'm done with the drafting page...at least to the point where we can start drafting without a time limit.

The links for the Draft page and your Draft Queue now show up in the OOPSS block on the left side of pages.

At this point, using the queue to draft for you is not possible, however when your pick is up, you will see your queue displayed as well as all available players and a create a player type block. Should be pretty self-explanatory once your pick is up.

I can't stress this enough, if ANY problem shows up, please copy it into a post, PM, or email to me so that I can take care of it ASAP. As always, if something were to break, we'll probably step back to before it broke and start back up once the problem is fixed.

Always looking for suggestions, etc. related to making the page better.

If a team is at or over the roster limit will they be required to drop a player when drafting one?

Didn't think about it. Not yet, I'll probably have to work that in. We may have to manually enforce it in the meantime.

It should also be mentioned that since this is a time-limit free draft period, nobody should be pressuring GM's to 'hurry up and pick'

I didn't mention it, but when a pick is made, it will be posted in the transactions forum under a 2007 draft thread. This should help keep GMs notified, as well as the picks until next pick on the draft page, hopefully keeping things moving a bit faster.

So, now that we're into the draft, does this mean the draft pick trading window is closed?

I don't believe that is closed until the clock starts on picks, which I believe is in early January.

Yea, now why don't you trade for Bren's pick so we can get this moving again?

Because I dont want him to think he can get overmarket value for his pick like me. He doesn't have the magical voodoo doll to make that happen.

The way this is going I would consider it unfair if the pick trading is not allowed to continue through the first round because allowing it for some first rounders and not others does not seem right.

This whole first round has turned into a sham. Unfortunately, that minor oversite by the ExCo has lead to a swinging dick contest with Bren feeling slighted becaues nobody backed his protest and now he's trying to one up JB's deal with every one of his picks.

You bring up a very good point. With Bren wanting to take 3-4 days on each of his picks, its going to harm the GM's at the back of the 1st round who won't get the opportunity to have their pick on the board and then shop that pick until the cows come home. Hoping some other GM will get desparate and give up the farm for the one player they can get at that pick but not later when their pick comes up.

Definately going to have to change that rule for next season and find some way to compensate the GM's later in the first round that aren't going to be able to get the opportunity to hold the draft up for 3 days while they try and maximize the value of their pick.

The rules can't change. Why does the first round get special treatment? Why say everyone in the first round need the opportunity to trade the pick when it's up? pick 30 should get that but not 31? That's bs. Leave the rules as is, fix it for next year.

I believe what Nats was saying, is that by the time January 1 comes around we aren't going to be finished with the first round. Thus half the GM's with first rond picks, more specifically, Bren and JB, are getting the opportunity to sit with their pick on the board for days on end while they try and maximize the value of the pick based on who's available.

After January 1, the time limit for each pick starts. Thus we may only be to pick #21, but every GM from pick #21 on will only have 24 hrs to make their pick. No chance for them to sit on the pick for days on end trying to finagle the best possible deal around. As such, Nats didn't feel that was going to be fair to the rest of the GM's in the first round who aren't going to get the luxury of sitting with their pick on the board and marketing it for days on end.

I think he has a fair point.

Actually, I think it is only going to end up being the first 20 or so picks that get the "special treatment". Every pick after that is probably going to end up on a time limit the way things are going.
