Do: Find Bren's mom and say hi to her from all of us. She should be dancing somewhere off the strip.

Don't: Have sex with her under any circumstances.

Why do I get the feeling you're gonna piss off someone in the mob and wind up under 6 feet of sand in the desert?

Don't: Lose all your money or bang some random chick because you've currently got a girl in a higher category than you should have

When I lived in SF, we used to go to Vegas waaaay more than is healthy. So like once a month, or something foolish like that. It changes a lot, so I can't say all of this is still true since I haven't been in a couple years, but from what I remember...

Going to the Hard Rock or Palms is fun if you're out for boozing and meeting women, but definitely do not gamble for any extended period at either of those places. General rule of thumb is is the more "hip" a place is the more the odds are probably tweaked by the house against you (such as the number of times you can split aces in blackjack, etc). If you're gonna gamble long enough to win anything, those small tweaks in the odds add up.

My favorite places to gamble were probably the MGM, Mandalay, Luxor, and the Bellagio (but only b/w 6AM and 10AM after a night out - when it's empty so you and your friends can have a lower-stakes table all to yourselves before getting yourself thrown out of a really nice breakfast). A big part of the reason is b/c those are the places I've won at, but they're also large enough that you can usually find a table w/ more than one open seat. However, Mandalay Bay on a fight night is a damn mob scene, so don't expect to do much gambling. Still fun though, b/c of the likelihood of seeing more than one rap star + entourage, and the waitresses wear the skimpiest gear there. As a sidenote, the main bar at Mandalay Bay is NOT a good place to meet women (any attractive and/or friendly girl there is... ahem... "on the clock").

Get a kobe flank steak at Tom Colicchio's "Craftsteak" restaurant at the MGM. You won't be sorry.

Before you leave, no matter how hung over you are, swing by one of the crappier casinos (like the Barbary Coast) and go to the sportsbook to place a bunch of $20 futures bets. The odds there will be much better than at some of the more popular places, and it's worth throwing down a few bucks on some 30-1 baseball and college basketball futures (to win AL, NL, WS, NCAA tourney). Baseball, just look at all the longshots and pick one or two who you think could be next year's Rockies/ DBacks/ Brewers, and college hoops is early enough that there's still some sleepers out there with long odds. Might also be able to get decent odds on an NBA team winning the East or Finals (Orlando would be my pick - but the cat might be outta the bag on them).

Good luck dude.

Also, if you have enough people, it's worth it to throw down and hire one of the limos hanging outside all the casinos for the night. Beats hailing 3+ cabs wherever you go, b/c they'll wait outside for you, and as a side bonus, they'll usually take you to a liquor store so you can stock up the limo for the night, which is cheaper than paying for drinks if you're not gambling.

Vacek's posts were way too long so I didn't read them - apologies if this is repeating:

DO:
GET A TABLE AT A CLUB - It ends up costing about the same, per person, and you look WAY cooler. Easier to invite a girl to your table then to ask to buy her a drink.

DONT:
F IT - It's Vegas, do whatever you want...

Ummm... this goes without saying. My posts are always way too long so I'm pretty sure nobody reads them.

oh, and they can get you those hard to find "party favors" if you're into that kind of thing.. expensive, but quality is well worth it. not the bunk you're going to find on the strip..

Wish I had come across this when you left Gabe.. I'm practically a Vegas Local, since my folks live here..

DO:
Eat at Osaka Sushi - best sushi i've had in the entire USA.. hands down. In a top 10 list of top sushi restaurants on the planet, Osaka Sushi in LV, NV was the only sushi restaurant outside of Japan listed.

Eat at Bouchon's @ the Venitian. Awesome French/American contemporary cuisine.

Get off the strip, if you can, and know where you're going and what you're going for. Local scene out here is pretty cool, if you know what you're doing. I happened to get into an awesome, intimate, 300max person concert for the Killers, for FREE!!!!, shortly before release of their 2nd album. Had to sit in 107 degree heat for 5 hours, but it was entirely worth it. Fucking awesome. Great local music scene, lots of stuff to do downtown - scene for all types - dance music, punk music, indie music, etc.

Be sure to go on the Big Shot, XScream and the 3rd ride(can't think of the name) on top of the stratosphere. Always incredible rush, always fun. Make sure its warm, or bring a jacket, as it gets hella windy 105 stories up.

Always always always visit the Bellagio atrium. It always changes, and it always amazes what those folks do. Plus, its pretty fuckin awesome when you're rollin on E and you go and "stop to smell the roses" so to speak. heh.

DO NOT:
Go to the Wynn. Hotel blows my nuts. Overpriced, Overrated, and it just plain stinks.

Park downtown - you will have to pay out the ass, and most likely will get ticketed for parking, even if you parked legally.

Go to the Circus Circus - fucking dump.

Be afraid to do, pretty much whatever you want. its vegas, and almost nothing is too outlandish. You have to be an absolute fuckwad to get arrested here.
