Red Sox pre draft block

Post by RedSox »

Okay. Some roster spring cleaning before the draft. Looking for future starters at C, LF, and SS. SP prospects always welcome. Current ages in ().

Higashioka has essentially the same projection as Mike Zunino except he won't cost a first round pick. Garver has some upside. He DH'd on days he wasn't catching to keep his bat in the line up. Of course some of that may just be because they're the Twins, so take it as you will.

C (27)Higashioka, Kyle - .245/.286/.418, 94 OPS+, -4 D
C (26)Garver, Mitch - .227/.295/.335, 74 OPS+, +3 D

These are the current two odd men out at 1B for me. Ryon Healy(106 OPS+) could also be available here.

1B (27)Cron, C.J. - .268/.308/.452, 111 OPS+, -2 D
1B (23)*Shaw, Chris - .228/.2679/.396, 73 OPS+, -2 D

Harrison is still worth 2.5 WAR over 600 PA, but to me he really would do best as a super utility guy on a championship caliber team. Projected at 2B/3B/SS/RF/LF with a VG throw rating.

2B (29)Harrison, Josh - .286/.320/.410, 97 OPS+, +0 D

Basically Josh Harrison lite. No SS rating last year, but played a lot of SS at AAA this past year.

SS (27)Motter, Taylor - .243/.298/.393, 92 OPS+, -6 D

Don't get too excited. I will take offers on Springer. I won't look at your roster or follow up on fishing attempts. Kim is an odd case in that I can simply keep him on my draft roster for another year so he's not as cheap as he otherwise might be. Guyer's claim to fame is his ability to get on base without walking. Don't know how long that's sustainable for, but right now he's hell on lefties. Smith - VG/VG/VG. Santander got a pretty good sim for a first projection out of A+ ball. Next, 3 CF and an increasingly rare 3 true outcomes guy. Florial is a lottery ticket, but also a Yankee.

OF (27)Springer, George - .251/.350/.462, 123 OPS+, +2 D
OF (29)*Kim, Hyeon-soo - .294/.370/.434, 117 OPS+, -6 D
OF (31)Guyer, Brandon - .272/.358/.414, 105 OPS+, +1 D
OF (24)*Smith, Mallex - .242/.309/.341, 78 OPS+, +3 D
OF (22)#Santander, Anthony - .239/.292/.417, 89 OPS+, -4 D
OF (23)Duggar, Steven - .229/.299/.331, 73 OPS+, -2 D
OF (23)*Andrew Stevenson - .254/.298/.330, 69 OPS+, +3 D
OF (23)*Cordero, Franchy - .217/.263/.335, 65 OPS+, +2 D
OF (22)Olson, Matt - .220/.310/.404, 98 OPS+, -1 D
OF (19)Florial, Estevan -

See Springer above. Then look at every good team in the league. They've all got at least one guy on top of the rotation 120+ or above. They don't get traded every day, especially when they're under 30. Vargas is your typical crafty lefty. A #4/5 may run 92-94 ERA+ so there are three/four guys above that. Expect to play at least 7 SP this year and plan accordingly.

SP (28)deGrom, Jacob -
SP (34)*Vargas, Jason - 6.89 K/9, 4.22 ERA, 98 ERA+
SP (25)Mills, Alec - 6.75 K/9, 4.27 ERA, 97 ERA+
SP (29)Karns, Nate - 8.75 K/9, 4.30 ERA, 96 ERA+
SP (30)Rusin, Chris -
SP (26)Clevinger, Michael - 8.42 K/9, 4.43 ERA, 87 ERA+
SP (25)Stewart, Brock - 8.23 K/9, 4.46 ERA, 85 OPS+
SP (22)*Jay, Tyler - 4.64 K/9, 5.36 ERA, 77 ERA+
SP (22)*Palumbo, Joe
SP (22)15-Ponce, Cody
SP (20)15-Hicks, Jordan
SP (21)15-Bickford, Phil

See DeGrom above. Everybody else I would move with a pick to improve draft slot. Treinen will be a bit more than the others because of his GB and low HR tendencies. Note Fields has an FIP- of 70.

CL (29)Betances, Dellin - 14.90 K/9, 2.35 ERA, 173 ERA+
RP (29)Treinen, Blake - 8.66 K/9, 3.44 ERA, 117 ERA+
RP (37)Belisle, Matt - 6.75 K/9, 3.47 ERA, 116 ERA+
RP (32)Hatcher, Chris - 9.81 K/9, 3.44 ERA, 110 ERA+
RP (31)Fields, Josh - 10.98 K/9, 3.51 ERA, 108 ERA+
RP (25)Fasola, John -

For reference and also note I would like to shed #96 and #126 before the draft.

Pick 126
