Lorenzo Cain

Post by Cardinals »

It's our favorite time of the year here on ExCo...

Gudim would like a ruling on Lo Cain.
Lorenzo Cain (wrist) will be shut down for the next week before being re-evaluated.
Cain said Saturday that it's "highly likely" that he's played his last game of the season. While it appears the brakes have been pumped on that notion, it remains a possibility. The outfielder has battled a left wrist issue for a while and said when he played Friday he was "basically swinging with one arm." Jarrod Dyson will be the main center fielder while Cain is out, although Paulo Orlando is there Sunday
Joel Goldberg of Fox Sports Kansas City reports the Royals are considering shutting Lorenzo Cain (wrist) down for the rest of the season.
Cain himself admitted that it's "highly likely" that he's played his last game of 2016. The All-Star outfielder returned to action Friday after missing seven games with a left wrist injury but said he was "basically swinging with one arm." The Royals are trying to make a late playoff push but it looks like they'll have to do it without Cain.
Tough sell for me. KC is only four games back and dude isn't playing. Out unless he comes back, from my perspective.

Tough call to me. I saw this over the weekend and started thinking about it.

This is on MLBTR: SUNDAY,10:59am: Cain now seems to agree with the Royals that shutting him down for a week and then re-evaluating is the best course of action, tweets Rustin Dodd of the Kansas City Star.

He has only played one game in September and may be out another week. What about treating it as a 15-day DL situation where Cain is required to sit out for two IBC weeks and then we can re-evaluate on 9/26? That may be a good compromise. Seems like he's done, but it's not definitive.

Well, yeah, if he starts playing again then he should play again. I don't see why re-evaluating and playing doctor and speculating, "well, if the Royals were 52 games out..." on 9/26 would be any good unless he's on the field.

I agree with that. So, I think it makes sense that he sit for two weeks (since Gudim has essentially gotten 10 or so free games out of an injured guy to-date) and we can see if he's actually playing games down the road. To me, I wouldn't be judging his return based on the Royals' record, but more if he's actually playing and if any reports come out saying that he's definitely out.
