MLB trades

Post by Mariners »

The 1st trade of the MLB off season, was good one.

The Tigers get SS Edgar Renteria from
the Braves for SP Jair Jurrjens & CF Gorkys Hernandez.

Hmm, now my guy Gorkys and my ex-guy Schafer may vie for that CF spot in time. Go Gorkys!

Now that's an interesting deal. They finally get Carlos Guillen off of SS.

While it may work out as a good trade for Atlanta in the future, I really believe it was a good use of resources for Dombrowski and the Tigers relative to next year. Sheffield, Maggs, Pudge and the "Gambler" have to get some help and come together next year ... or the Tigers team will see opportunities pass them by.

Besides they have Maybin coming up in CF and a young Granderson already there. I like Jurrjens but he would have been no more then a #5 SP for the Tigers next year. If Renteria plays even close to the level he performed at this year, the Tigers just upgraded themselves at two positions: SS and 1B.

No doubt, Detroit needed another piece to keep up with the Indians and they just got it.
