Playoff Football
It's a few weeks until the playoffs, but the playoff picture is clarifying pretty well. Denver will probably be the #1 seed in the AFC with Seattle a near lock in the NFC.
Living in Denver, I hear a lot of Broncos talk, and this week I'm hearing a lot of fans getting excited about the broncos having home field through the playoffs. I find this particular amusing as the high for this coming Sunday is 20. Denver would be my favorite for the AFC if not for the fact that I just can't see Manning winning two playoff games in the freezing cold of Colorado (which still leaves my mind kind of boggled that he signed here considering the winter weather).
The pats are a lock for the AFC East and probably the #2 seed, but I really don't know what to expect out of this team on any given week. Heck, in any given half. one and done wouldn't surprise me, nor would a SB title.
Seattle is all the rage and I haven't seen much of their games, but I just haven't come away impressed with what I have seen. Maybe that's because the games I've seen the most of were against Houston and TB and any team that has to go to OT against those two teams... I just can't buy into them being as overwhelming as the media keeps playing them up as.
I think it's going to be a interesting playoff football season, there isn't a team out there that really looks like a lock to make the big game.

Pats fan here. You are right to not know what to expect out of them. They are all over the place. How they came out of the 1st half of the season with a winning record blows my mind. They were awful for most of it but found ways to win. They took some huge injury hits on defense that will be exposed in the playoffs.
I haven't liked the makeup of the Pats for the last 5 of so years. Trying to score 75 points a game can get you wins during the regular season but teams that can't play defense usually get exposed in the playoffs. Losing Wilfork and Mayo really hurts. When you have Brady and Belichik you always have a chance but I'm not optimistic.

The Colts are so frustrating to watch right now because injuries have killed the team. The #1 WR, #1TE, #1 & 2 RB, starting left guard all done for the year. Right now the offense is Hilton and Fleener combining for about 120 yards receiving a game, Donald Brown and that is it. There's no other WRs or TEs that can catch, Richardson's been a bust as I knew he would the second the trade happened. The defense is decent but there's no pass rush outside of Mathis, luckily they're still healthy. If Greg Toler comes back and we have the defense that was on the field against Seattle and Denver and beat both of them, I think a win or two isn't out of the question given the right match ups.
I hated the Richardson trade from the minute it went down and I've been more than justified. The guy is awful. He doesn't know how to be a running back. If there's not a hole 4 feet wide for him, he just stops at the line. He doesn't run into the pile and push forward for a couple more yards, he just stops. He's awful. Could've signed anyone off the street and got better production

Seattle is still one of the younger teams in the league. They have had some playing down to their opponents level last season and this season. In addition, they've had a stretch were they were missing their starting LT, RT and Center, lost their #1 WR and were missing 3 guys off their defensive line to start the season.
Despite that, they play big in big games and have found ways to win despite the injuries and are just now getting healthy. Russell Wilson is damn good.
Nobody wants to play Seattle, in Seattle in the playoffs.
Go Hawks!

Seems to me it was more Irsay abandoning Manning than Manning abandoning Indy, but that's from an outside perspective.Padres wrote:I'm curious Aaron, do you and the Colts fans you know root for Manning in Denver? As for the Patriots, what has me more optimistic than past years is the fact that the pass defense, aside from Andre Johnson being wide open every other play on Sunday, is much better than the run defense this year. No Wilfork and Mayo is killer, but a healthy Talib and Dennard, with Arrington in the slot and McCourty/Gregory at safety is pretty good.
Amazing what a difference Gronkowski makes. Not saying they're definitely going to the Super Bowl or definitely winning it, but it wouldn't shock me. Especially if they got there, since it'll be cold and outdoors in New Jersey. We'll see though.

Going to be a very interesting SB being outdoors in NY in February. If the Pats could get there (very big if), I'd give them an early edge over most of the contenders in the NFC (including Seattle) just because of the weather factor (though you never know, it could be nice, but I wouldn't bet on it). I still think an outdoor Superbowl in NY is one of the stupidest ideas the NFL has ever had though.Pirates wrote:Seems to me it was more Irsay abandoning Manning than Manning abandoning Indy, but that's from an outside perspective.Padres wrote:I'm curious Aaron, do you and the Colts fans you know root for Manning in Denver? Yeah, everyone roots for Peyton. Peyton is the reason football is still in Indiana, he is the reason high school football now outdraws basketball, everyone loves the guy. I stand by the decision to release him though. It was a case of possibly having a great QB for 3 years and then rebuilding or having a great QB for 10-15 years. I knew Peyton was gone as soon as that season started and mentally prepared for it. Doesn't mean I didn't cry during his farewell press conference. Nobody with a brain has ill will towards Irsay over it either. Everyone's mad at Polian for drafting like shit after 2006 when the window was there for more Super Bowls and Peyton was stuck with a bad supporting cast outside of Wayne and sometimes Dallas ClarkPadres wrote:I'm curious Aaron, do you and the Colts fans you know root for Manning in Denver? It may be just me, but the refs seem to be worse this year than I've ever seen them before. I almost miss the replacements, at least they had an excuse for being awful.Cardinals wrote:Never in my life seen a player tackled short of the goalline be called a touchdown on review because he wasn't touched when the video shows he was clearly touched.
