8. Eugenio Suarez - SS - Tigers
9. Devon Travis - 2B - Tigers
10. #17 Draft Pick - ? - ?
Notable Omission(s):
Mark Sappington
Tucker Barnhart
Prospects on the Rise:
1. Billy Burns - CF - Nationals: A blazing outfielder, Burns picked up a little notoriety after filling in for Goodwin in AA last year. He showed a solid hit tool, speed and defense in CF.
2. Preston Tucker - RF - Astros: The guy just mashes. Did at Florida and has done so throughout his pro career. After obliterating the Cal League, Tucker maintained his power and bb/k ratio, though his average did dip, as expected, in AA. Look for him to start the year in AA and move up quickly.
3. Kendry Flores: A lanky starter out of the Dominican Republic, Flores can bring the heat and has solid command for a 22-year-old. Had a very nice 15K performance last season, which ended with a 9/1 K/BB ratio.
Factors on the Farm:
1. Steven Ames - RP - Marlins: Had a great projection after an impressive 2012 in AA. Took a step back in 2013, but regained some form after moving to Marlins and getting promotion. Important bullpen arm.
2. Tucker Barnhart - C - Reds: One of the best (if not the) defensive catchers in the minor leagues. Scouts love him. Switch-hitting bat is average and can take walks. Bat will determine starter/backup role.
3. Kyle Kubitzka - 3B - Braves: Lefty 3B, great eye, takes walks, some power. Hit very well in the AFL. Let's see how that translates to 2014.

Renato Nunez (Athletics), 3B
Prospects on the Rise
Cody Anderson (Indians), SP—A former college closer, the Indians moved Anderson to the rotation and he quickly has developed into one of the most promising arms in the system. Holds mid-90s fastball deep into games.
Ty Blach (Giants), SP—Sterling pro debut in 2013. The kind of advanced lefty who could move rather quickly. His fastball sits in the low 90s, but he can reach back for a little more, complemented by solid changeup.
Scott Schebler (Dodgers), OF—Dodgers named him their Minor League Hitter of the Year in ’13, over Pederson and Seager. His offensive skills have been apparent since he hit .446 with 20 home runs in college. Smooth swing, generates good bat speed, solid power. Hits line drives from gap to gap.
Factors on the Farm
Luis Severino (Yankees), SP—Live-armed righty, very young, clean arm, big velocity, above-average slider at times. Real upside here from a guy who would’ve been a high draft pick if he was eligible.
Brian Johnson (Red Sox), SP—Once the top two-way player in the college game, helping Florida be one of the top programs in the nation. Now focusing on pitching, has solid four-pitch mix with good knowledge of how to use them. He can throw all four for strikes and goes right after hitters. Fastball with good sink, but his slider is his out pitch.
Mason Melotakis (Twins), SP—Rose up draft boards in 2012 as he started to register upper-90s readings on radar guns as the closer for Northwestern State. Now starting, his plus fastball is still be above-average when stretched out and he commands it pretty well.

Feels like a good time to do this post-draft...
Top 10:
1. Addison Russell - ss - A's
2. Albert Almora - cf - Cubs
3. Aaron Sanchez - rhp - Blue Jays
4. Matt Wisler - rhp - Padres
5. Max Fried - lhp - Padres
6. David Dahl - of - Rockies
7. Arismendy Alcantara - 2b/ss - Cubs

Notable Omission(s):
J.R. Graham - rhp - Braves
Domingo Santana - of - Astros
Vincent Velasquez - rhp - Astros
Edwin Escobar - lhp - Giants
Allen Webster - rhp - Red Sox
Prospects on the Rise:
1. Franklin Barreto - ss - Blue Jays: Barreto, as a SS, is an All-Star. Barreto, as a 2b, is an All-Star. Barreto, as anything else, is just a guy.
2. Mitch Nay - 3b - Blue Jays: Has the ability to stay at 3b, flashes a strong hit tool with big time power.
3. Sergio Alcantara - ss - Diamondbacks: Alcantara is a fantastic ss who takes a fantastic approach at the plate. This is a big year.
Factors on the Farm:
1. Leonel Campos - rhp - Padres: Coming off a massive '13 in the MiLB, Campos has the ability to pitch at the back of a bullpen...right now.
2. Eury Perez - cf - Nationals: The man is a burner who can play any position in the OF as plus. The hit tool is great, but the approach and power fall below average.
3. Jaff Decker - of - Pirates: Decker has the approach, the hit tool, and the versatility to be very valuable. He also has little power and is a minus fielder, so...
Top 3 Non-Prospect Players Under 26 (I'm cheating):
1. Dan Hudson - rhp - Diamondbacks: A stud who got lost in the woods (injury)...but seems to be finding his way back.
2. Austin Romine - c - Yankees: Seems to be losing ab's with McCann, but had a .750 ops while playing plus defense in the 2nd half of last year.
3. Robbie Grossman - of - Astros: The man can play baseball. Good fielder, good approach, little power...but will absolutely be a 2nd division starter or 4th of.

Sure, why not.
Top 10:
1. Corey Seager- 3B - Dodgers
2. Mark Appel- SP - Astros
3. Jorge Alfaro - C - Rangers
4. Hunter Harvey - SP - Orioles
5. Michael Choice - LF - Rangers
6. Lewis Brinson - CF- Rangers
7. Robbie Ray - SP - Tigers
8. Dorssys Paulino - SS- Indians
9. Eugenio Suarez - SS - Tigers
10. Devon Travis - 2B - Tigers
Notable Omission(s):
Matt Purke
Alec Asher
Prospects on the Rise:
2. Kendry Flores: A lanky starter out of the Dominican Republic, Flores can bring the heat and has solid command for a 22-year-old. Had a very nice 15K performance last season, which ended with a 9/1 K/BB ratio. Nice #4 SF rating in BP.
3. Mark Sappington: Pretty much consensus #5 prospect in a bad Angels farm system, but put up nice K numbers last year in the Cal League. Looks to display the stuff over a full year of AA.
Factors on the Farm:
1. Carter Capps: 2011 draft pick and hard-throwing righty out of the pen (Miami's after being dealt for LoMo). K/IP at this stage and still very young. Good chance he'll be a solid pen arm moving forward.
2. Nick Ahmed: Nice little pickup after a poor start to the season. Ahmed has a very good defensive profile. If he can hit a little more, this Uconn product could turn into a back-end regular at SS, which is valuable. Worst case, he's a great defensive UTIL.
3. Tyler Heinneman: Catcher who showed power, average and the ability to walk in A+. Got him a +4 defensive rating this year. Needs to prove abilities at higher levels before I get too excited, but ZIPs likes him so far.
Top 3 Non-Prospect Players Under 25:
1. Jason Heyward - RF - Braves
2. Jose Altuve - 2B - Astros
3. Matt Davidson - 3B - White Sox

Trades and graduations to MLB have thinned the ranks a bit. Dealing Springer and Arismendy didn't help my depth of the farm for sure, but overall not a bad mix of younger high-upside-types and guys that are ready to contribute, topped off by an elite arm in Butler. Flores has been in my top 10 for-frickin'-ever, but dude's still just 22. Used to have lots of Astros, now I have lots of Rockies. Not sure why really.
