Participation

One idea I've kicked around from time to time, is upping the standards for participation in the league. Most recently when I tried to get more GM's involved in the management of the league simultaneous to the formation of the ExCo. unfortunately, the only people who did anything were Jake, who has been great with the database, and Andrew who did some of the daily injury stuff.
With the season coming to a close, now seems like a good time to address this again. Should we adjust the expectations for participation in the league? Should everyone be expected to contribute in some way to the benefit of the league beyond their own team, whether it's managing the DL, serving on exco or doing a monthly set of powerrankings?

I remember volunteering to do a thing reviewing and evaluating trades but no one ever followed up with me on it. Let's come up with what we'd like to have in the league, power rankings, trade evaluations, breakdowns whatever it is, and then find people who want to do them and follow up so that it happens. We also can't set the participation standard too high, as came up during the Daily DL thread what's nice about this league is that 2 hours of daily participation isn't required.

I think for the most part, what we do in the ExCo, what Jake does for the database, would cover any responsibility by us.
The question is, do we make some added level of compulsory participation? Or do we find a way to encourage it through some kind of incentive?

I don't think making it compulsory is the way to go, the league should be fun first and foremost and assigning homework is not a way to make it more fun. I also don't think incentives are that rational either, because the only method we have to give incentives would be to give them a competitive upperhand and I don't think it's fair to reward those with more free time than others. If anything, creating OOPSS has shown me that gratitude can sometimes be a very flattering incentive, maybe if we recognized GM's contributions more (could be done through OOPSS) that would lead to more contribution?

Amen to all of that. This is supposed to be fun, and fortunately there are enough of us who are willing to contribute to day-to-day happenings that pressuring guys who are good members to help run the league or else is a really depressing tone. And I detest the notion of rewards for helping.
