Fake dead girlfriend. Convenient tragedy timing for a Heisman push for an otherwise average player? A coverup for the fact he's gay? Discuss the possibilities. Deadspin's the go to place for sports journalism now it seems

I don't think deadspin is the place for sports journalism. I just think the South Bend Gazette or Whatever isn't the place for journalism, period.
But I still don't get what the benefit of this hoax would be. Why would you try to carry on a fake relationship for an entire season, including tweets, just for sympathy. Dude had a great year, regardless of whether you hate Notre Dame or not. I don't think you get Heisman votes if someone you know dies. Maybe I'm wrong. I just think it's way too deliberate of a scam to carry on all year.
At the same time, I don't know how you'd carry on a relationship without knowing it. I'm betting he's gay and doesn't want to come out. But it's all awfully suspicious.

Oh I'm sure he's lying about every supposed physical or live video meetup, I'd imagine it would be humiliating to admit that he's dating someone he never met, so easier to pretend he has. He still comes off like a fool, just a question of whether he's a guilty fool too.
