Morneau Eligibility

Post by Cardinals »

Vacek asked me to get a ruling on Morneau.

The Twins shut Morneau down for the season with concussion-like symptoms and a cyst in his left knee. Obviously, the Twins are out of it.

Unless injuries are major, I think it's better to be on the side of letting players play. I think Morneau should be playing for Vacek down the stretch and in the playoffs.

I don't think he should be playing because he hasn't in a while and concussion like symptoms can keep guys out a long time.

Given that they had him trying to come back by taking batting practice multiple times and he wasn't able to come back afterwards, I'd vote for out.

"Still trying to get there. Still trying to look at that and go from there," assistant athletic trainer Dave Pruemer said of Morneau. "A couple good days and then he seems to have one where it's just not quite right." - Sept 13th

Concussions are so tough when we're talking about non-playoff teams. I think he should be out right now based on what Shawn linked, but I think we should watch it closely over the next few weeks. I agree with JP that we should err on the side of letting guys play, so the fact that he doesn't get back on the field wouldn't in itself be proof enough for me that he should be out for the playoffs. Concussions can linger, but not all of them go on and on.

So he's out until further progress/notice?

Given that this is not his first and his history of concussions I believe this is the correct ruling. Until he plays again - at least PH - he should be out.
