It's dead in here anyways... Playoff predictions!

The place to come to talk about all things IBC related. Or not IBC related. Just keep it reasonably respectful.

yeesh, it's been pretty quiet, which tempted me to start one of my patented "make a ridiculous claim so everyone will get riled up" threads.... but I don't really have the time to maintain one of those and post enough stupid stuff to keep it going for very long, so instead I thought I'd try something tamer.

we're almost halfway through the season and JP and I found ourselves debating the playoffs yesterday, so let's see who everyone thinks will make the playoffs.

ALBeast - NYY - (no brainer unless his rotation pulls a Nils)
ALC - KC - not a lock IMO, but a pretty safe bet
ALWorst - OAK - the only question here is if he ends up being the only ALW team with a record over .500
ALWC - BOS - By far the toughest pick of all and yeah it seem homerific to pick myself, but of the 4 teams locked in a battle over the WC, I'm the most likely to sacrifice a year or two to rebuilding after this season in order to get there this year. I've done it before.

NLE - FLA - Former beaster pulls it off, Ken could make a run, but my bet is Dan ends up with the best record in the NL
NLC - PIT - Tough one, but I think he pulls it out over Nate who probably forgets to activate or deactivate a key guy
NLW - COL - Nils is packing it in
NLWC - WAS - A late charge by Ken puts him over the top on Nate

Round 1
NYY v. BOS - Come on, like I'd pick JB, especially with his history of choking in the playoffs? BOSTON
OAK v. KC - Even if Carpenter misses the playoffs (which I'd bet he does) Brett has the horses to take down Jake in 3

FLA v. COL - Dan in 5 in a very dull series
PIT v. WAS - JP is gonna hate me for sayign this, but Ken's sim voodoo prevails in a series that is the complete opposite of the FLA/COL series

Round 2
KC v. BOS - This series hinges on Webb... if he's there, it's mine, if not, I'm 2 for 4 in AL Championship Series. I don't even know how to call this

FLO v. WAS - Ken finishes the job he started in almost catching Dan in the regular season, bouncing him in 6to get to his first IBC World Series

IBC World Series VIII
WAS v. KC/BOS - Whether it's Z or I, Ken finally falls, his voodoo running out as the AL get its' 5th flag and either the ALC gets it's first title, or the ALBeast get's it's 4th and the IBC's first 2 time champ.

I beat JB in 2007 and took Pat to 5 in 2008, no way I'm going out to anyone in 3. I really have a hard time seeing Ken making up 10 games on Nate at this point, though 8 pitchers could always get hurt I suppose.

If Ken and Nate were in the same division, I'd agree, but Ken could definitely put together a run in the NLE and Nate, in spite of always seeming to have a great team, has only won the NLC once. He always struggles with injuries and Halladay going down is opening that door wide for JP and for Ken.

Besides, this wouldn't be fun if I made the 'easy' predictions :)

How would the first rd matchup be BOS/NYY? Don't we have the same rules of division teams not playing in 1st rd?

No, we don't have the same rules as the MLB does there. Our rules state:
X. Playoffs

1. Playoffs will follow the same format as in the MLB and using the same rules for qualifying with the following exceptions.
2. Players signed/released after August 31 to a team will not be eligible for the playoffs. If they're not on your roster before September 1, you can't use them.
3. Any players who are injured when the playoffs begin will remain injured and ineligible to play. No players will become injured during the playoffs.
4. No team which does not have an active GM shall be included in the playoffs.
5. Home field throughout the playoffs will be determined by best overall record with ties being broken by head to head record and then best division record.
6. Wildcard teams can face teams from the same division in the first round of the playoffs.

Ah, ok. Forgot about that.

But, isn't that from the same rules that exclaim:

International Baseball Confederacy Official Rules & Procedures

I.IBC Foundation

1. Rules of the IBC will adhere to those of MLB except where indicated below.
2. Rules listed below are subject to change at the discretion of the commissioners as we acclimate to the Diamond Mind Baseball system. All GM's will be notified of any and all changes and the topic will be open for discussion and debate, however by joining the IBC all GM's agree to accept the final decisions of the co-commissioners. While the rules and procedures of the IBC are ever evolving due to technological advances, changes in MLB and inspired suggestions from member GM's, no rules change are immediately foreseen and under no circumstances will a rule be initiated to benefit or favor one team over another.

II. General Manager Participation

1. GM's are expected to maintain a high level of participation in the league. Any participant who becomes inactive and unresponsive for a term of more than 30 days may risk losing their club unless discussed with the commissioner beforehand (business trips or lengthy vacations etc.).
2. Roll Calls may occasionally be called for. Failure to respond may result in loss of franchise. These Roll Calls will be done via e-mail with a subject line titled Roll Call. Simply replying to it and acknowledging receipt is sufficient.

III. The Commissioner

1. The Commissioner (Bren Dillon) and Co-Commissioner (Nils Erickson) are responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the league and were responsible for its founding and creation. Their responsibilities are outlined throughout this document and include the creation and management of these IBC rules.
2. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

1. Maintaining and enforcing the Rules of the IBC
2. Simming games and making boxscores available to all members on a regular basis.
3. Processing trades and player moves in the league database for simming purposes.
4. Conducting Roll Calls and recruiting new members when necessary
5. Resolving assorted disputes.

Can we get a rewrite of these rules soon?

2009 is going to continue the streak of new GM winning each year, will be the KC Royals pulling through at the end, beating the Reds in a 7 game series.
