Fire Bud Selig

Post by Royals »

According to reports, Bud Selig is considering suspending A-Rod
http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/r ... ig_ma.html
Now, I loathe A-Roid as much as anyone, but this is horseshit. You can't suspecd ONE of the 104 positives 6 years after the fact because 'it was illegal". Really dipshit? It was? Then why the hell didn't you suspend them then? Oh yeah, because it was testing done to see if there was a problem, NOT to generate suspensions off of.
How about Selig gets the axe instead for enabling the steroid mess in the first place, I like that idea much better.

Bud Selig = Vince McMahon

Both used steroids bring their sport to an apex, only to see the rug being pulled swiftly from underneath them - and then THEY have the audacity to accept no blame for the players/wrestlers actions.

At least everyone knew wrestling was a sham (aside perhaps from 8yr olds who don't know better). There's no integrity to wrestling to threaten. the integrity of baseball over a sizable period has been brought into question. Did you see the last bit in the article where eh's considering 'reinstating' Hank Aaron as the career HR leader? I'll never look at Bonds as the 'rightful' record holder but to actually take him out of the books? Who else is he going to strip from the record books?

What an incredibly narrow-minded and ignorant Northeasterner thing to say. Though there is certainly less integrity in wrestling, there's no question that the deaths of stars because of the punishment they put themselves through (all STRONGLY linked to steroids and other drugs) has led to a diminished view of the "sport".

I wasn't trying to compare apples to apples - I was comparing the fact that both these sports profited off of the use of drugs (most notably steroids), while the leadership turned a blind eye (or even lent a hand). I think I'm drawing a pretty easy comparison here - am I wrong?

If you think I'm comparing the sport of baseball to the "sport" of wrestling, as opposed to simply how they both profited off of drug use, then you're an idiot.

I'd question the sanity of anyone who refers to wrestling as a "sport". It's not a competition, it's a soap opera with muscles. I loved wrestling when I was younger, even for a bit after I realized the whole thing wasn't real. But calling it a sport is beyond absurd.
Superficially, your comparison works, but steroids did more than threaten the health of athletes in baseball, it ruined the integrity of the sport and damaged its history.
And as much as I LOATHE Selig, i don't blame him for making the steroid mess, though I do think he should be held responsible (along with the players union) for not doing more to stop it. The players have a choice, there's always a choice, and the ONLY person responsible is the one who decides to pop that pill or fill the needle. Selig has enough stupid decisions he's responsible for (like the ones quoted in the article) he's NOT responsible for Bonds, Arod's, Clemens' or anyone else's.
