These ratings are obviously a virtual waste of time, but it might be interesting to see how far off one person's opinion is just months from now...

Best Overall Draft: Tampa Bay

Tough to argue with adding two players that Baseball America will probably include in their top ten overall prospects in a couple of months.

Second Best Overall Draft: Oakland / NY Mets

Oakland is second only to TB in terms of potential impact talent. The Mets picked up a combination of elite talent and polish. Five players look very likely to reach the majors.

Best Value Draft: Arizona

No shortage of picks here, but unlike the three above, at least didn't have two top ten picks. Pretty heavy on relief pitchers which hurts upside, but the fifth round picks add a ton of value to this draft.

Worst Overall Draft: Chicago Cubs

Picks actually look pretty good, but they were pretty low and a little less likely to make an impact than what Baltimore and Houston brought in.

Best 1st Round Pick: 1.10 - Brett Wallace

In my view there were ten apparent elite talents, and Wallace went last in this group. Lots of interesting picks in the lower half, but hard to sort them out this soon.

Worst 1st Round Pick: 1.14 - Junichi Tazawa

Tazawa is more likely to reach the majors than most picks below him, but if the draft had been a little later, he probably would have slid a little further. On the other hand, Washington's next pick Viciedo might have been a temptation in the top ten, so I guess it evens out.

Best 2nd Round Pick: 2.27 - Craig Kimbrel / 2.20 - Will Smith

Almost impossible to pick a guy in this round. Kimbrel and Smith were two favorites of mine.

Best 3rd Round Pick: 3.26 - Cutter Dykstra

No one in the 3rd or 4th round really jumps way out at this point.

Best 4th Round Pick: 4.6 - Wade Miley

Best 5th Round Pick: 5.2 - Ross Seaton / 5.12 - Yadel Marti / 5.14 - Stephen Fife / 5.29 - Jay Jackson

There was a really lengthy plateau in the back end of this draft, as lots of 5th (and later) round picks look as good to me as 3rd and 4th rounders. Will be interesting to see how that works out in the long run.

There is no more useless endeavor than rating a baseball draft immediately after it happens. That being said, the read was much appreciated. We'll have to revisit the rankings when Inoa and Melville are batting Derek Holland for the 2013 IBC Cy Young.

I have to say that Knapp in the middle of the 3rd round was the best pick...wonder what GM got him?

This draft was just LOADED with college relievers, which at least from my perspective, really dragged down the value of the draft a lot. Seemed like every other player was a major 'project' (more than a typical draft that is).
