Power Rankings

Post by Yankees »

I'm going to be at the Natick Mall kiosk for close to 20 hours this coming weekend, and would love to do power rankings.

In this thread, please provide projected lineup, bench, rotation, pen, and any org depth that will have a sim projection by Friday at 5 pm.

Appreciate you doing this dude:

C
Ryan Doumit
Dave Ross (2 years ago he showed power, last year on base skills, maybe he doesn't suck)
Outside shot at Posey projecting

1B
Crush Davis
Eric Hinske
SIM bat TBD

2B
Mark Ellis

SS
Jeff Keppinger
Julio Lugo

3B
Casey Blake
Bill Hall (just destroyed lefties last year in spite of a down year)
Mike Hessman (what projection free agents are made of, only I already have him)
Chris Johnson (with Wigginton non-tendered he's arguably Houston's starting 3B next year)

LF
Fred Lewis
John Mayberry (decent shot at a lefty killer projection, waiting might pay off)

CF
Mike Cameron
Jon Van Every (at least until projections come out)

RF
Randy Winn (no way he gets dogged on speed again this year)
Ben Francisco (top backup at all 3 spots)

DH
Ken Griffey/Frank Thomas (hopefully one more year of usefulness from one of these 2, if not it'll be someone else)

SP
Brett Myers
Gil Meche
Noah Lowry (if healthy)
Mark DiFelice (maybe not as good as last year but should still be useful)
Derek Holland/Steve Garrison/Antonio Bastardo/Kevin Mulvey/Clayton Mortensen/Kyle Bloom (whoever gets the most useful projection, losing Marcum to TJ just sucks)

RP
Huston Street
Chad Qualls
Brad Ziegler
Chad Cordero
Dennys Reyes
RJ Swindle (the left-handed Mark DiFelice - Rotoworld)
Taylor Tankersley
Warner Madrigal (primed for a major breakout, NASTY)

Lineup:
RF - Randy Winn
3B - Casey Blake
C - Ryan Doumit
1B - Chris Davis
DH - Griffey/Hinske/Hall/Thomas/Projection
CF - Mike Cameron
LF - Fred Lewis/John Mayberry platoon
2B - Mark Ellis
SS - Jeff Keppinger

Rotation
Myers
Meche
DiFelice
owry if healthy
TBD from the list above

Bullpen spots
I'll have four titular closers in real life, so we'll see what based on projections.

I remember something about you doing some kind of ranking last year that may or may not have happened... looking forward to these!

C - Laird
1B - Helton (may sit some vs LHP)
2B - Kendrick
SS - Greene or Barmes
3B - Beltre
LF - Choo (should project well enough to avoid platoon)
CF - Morgan (may sit some vs LHP)
RF - Bruce (Diaz or Francouer may see time here vs LHP)

Bench
C - Hanigan, Castillo (also plays IF/OF)
1B - Evans, Phelps, Morales (also plays OF), Whitesell
IF - Infante, Arias, Amezega (also plays OF), Greene or Barmes
OF - Diaz, Francouer, Cain, Torres, Scales (also plays IF)

There are still a few questions that remain about how the lineup will look, especially vs LHP. Defensive ratings should be solid with Helton, Barmes (or Greene), Morgan, Beltre, and possibly Kendrick all expected to receive at least VG ratings. Whitesell and Morales could see significant time if they project well and Helton does not.

SP1 - Slowey
SP2 - Cook
SP3 - Arroyo
SP4 - Eveland
SP5 - Carlyle (if he rates at SP), Westbrook (when he returns), Feldman (GB guy, may get decent projection), Joseph Martinez and Aaron Poreda also could sneek in here if projections merit.

RP - Carlyle or anyone else who isn't the #5 SP
RP - Saey
RP - Dehoyos
RP - Fuentes
RP - Corpas

I am not sure who the closer is going to be at this point.

Of those not mentioned Viciedo and Tazawa are in limbo because they may, or may not project well.

Houser, Inman, Simmons, and Scribner may all get projections but probably not ones good enough to be a factor.

MR Wes Littleton MLB - 4.13 FIP, .262 BAA, 66% GB, 1.75 K/BB

Others - Drabek, Rohrbough, Garcia, Fields = Proj. doubtful, doubtful, out w/TJ, not signed/no proj.

Light on experience, there's a good chance everyone on the hitting side except Vallejo and Still could see at least a cup of coffee this year depending on their MLB team's suckitude. Pedro Alvarez likely won't sim this year because he signed too late to play in 2008, but I see him at least at AA by the end off 2009.

After leading the IBC in double plays turned in 2008, the Rays should again be among the league leaders for 2009 as we'll likely have a lot of guys on base and our projected starters induce GB %s of 57, 71, 59, 64, and 65%. The pen is what it is, two good guys and some filler. Mussina quitting hurt.

Look for a large improvement in 2010 as nearly everyone will be AA or above with Garcia back from TJ and the arrival of Drabek and Rohrbough augmenting the pitching staff. Weglarz and Burgess could also contribute.

Rank 28ish.
