5th pick in the draft

Post by Rangers »

Sort of like in 2005 and 2007 where we saw Ryan Braun, Justin Upton, Troy Tulowitzki, Matt Wieters, Matt LaPorta, Ryan Zimmerman, Mike Moustakas, Jay Bruce, Jason Heyward and Alex Gordon all go right at the top of the draft, I think that the value this year is in elite position players like Posey, the Beckhams and Alvarez, one of whom is virtually guaranteed to be available at five.

But alas, I need pitching options after dealing away Hughes. So that pick is available for a pitcher, and it doesn't have to be an already entrenched stud, just someone promising who's already in the minors or majors.

Okay, never mind. I think I got ten inquiries, and the best player offered was probably Brandon Erbe. The top five players in this draft are way, way better than guys are willing to give, it looks like.

Hah, yeah, and to be fair, the reason that Erbe was the best guy offered is that he was the only one actually offered. No one would actually offer anything, just "inquire".
