Postseason Injuries again

Post by Cardinals »

I think if a player isn't on their MLB teams playoff roster due to injury they shouldn't be able to play in the IBC.

I.e., Ben Sheets, Kuo, etc.

What say you?

Agreed. Go series by series I guess. Which means no starting IBC series' before the MLB series' are slated to start--depending on the players involved (Brewers/Dodgers especially).

That sounds right. If its at all possible a guy would be playing in the postseason, so if he's left off the postseason roster due to injury he should not be eligible.

Doing the diligence and looking at Kuo as Nate requested-

I think his argument is pretty weak, "if he were on another postseason team then he'd be playing." And that he "wasn't DL'ed." I think this is actually the easiest determination that we have to go on- when a player is left off the post season roster because of injury. I think it's pretty cut and dry that Kuo shouldn't play if left off the roster.

Also, in terms of him not really being hurt, I don't think this is normal, even if there is no structural damage:

Hong-Chih Kuo is having numbness in his arm when he attempts to throw and has been ruled out for the NLDS.

Los Angeles lefty reliever Hong-Chih Kuo will not pitch in the NL division series for the Dodgers as a precaution because of a possible condition with his circulation.

Kuo, the Dodgers' top middle reliever with 96 strikeouts in 80 innings, warmed up in the bullpen to pitch in relief Saturday night at San Francisco but said he couldn't feel his fingers and didn't enter the game. He then threw for about 15 minutes in the indoor cage and still was having problems with numbness -- and his skin became red.

The Dodgers didn't want to take any chances Kuo, who has a long history of injury problems, might have a blood clot. He will undergo more tests in the coming days, then head to instructional league in Arizona to determine whether he might be available if the NL West champions advance to the National League championship series.

After the game, athletic trainer Stan Conte took Kuo to the emergency room at a local hospital, where the pitcher underwent a doppler ultrasound to check how his blood was circulating. The test was negative, signaling that his blood was flowing normally.

"I couldn't feel the ball," Kuo said, noting he's not overly concerned and hopes to return soon. "I'll do my best. It's sad, but I've just got to get better. What can I do?"

As for the DL argument, I refer to IBC rule V.3 "Players who are shown to not be playing due to physical ailment are considered injured".

Nate's contention makes no sense.

The only thing that I don't like about the postseason situation is that it may be really hard to get reliable information on someone like Kuo if his team is eliminated in MLB but not in IBC. When a guy is a close call for the LDS and would have been a close call for the LCS, it's going to be a total coincidence if someone actually says whether he would have been able to play - and it may be bad information anyway, since there is really no burden for that person to be right.

On most of our other issues we can keep it pretty simple, but I don't know what to do about this.
