The Dark Knight (spoilers)

Post by DBacks »

I just got back from a midnight showing and HOLY SHIT.

I knew it was going to be good, but I was not ready for that. I knew Ledger was going to be amazing, but I had no idea what he was capable of doing. It was incredible. There are no words to describe it.

If you live crime dramas, go see this movie. It is so far beyond a "comic book" movie that it has to be considered something else, something better.

Do yourself a favor and go see this movie. Catch the last brilliant performance of an enormously talented man. It's the stuff legends are made of.

I think, much like John Lennon, Elvis and James Dean, we can mark up Heath Ledger's best career move as an early death

So, either no one saw this movie, or no one loved it enough to come on here and gush about how amazing it was. Either way, I'm shocked.

Or maybe it's completely sold out on the weekend, and most people can't go to the movies during the week because they have jobs.

I saw it on Sunday night...it was unbelievable - Heath totally stole the show...

I had high expectations for this one, and it was totally exceeded...

I saw it, IMAX-style, on Saturday night and, yeah, definitely the best thing I've seen this year. I was especially struck by notes from classical tragedy in the rise and fall of Harvey Dent; such GLORIOUS pathos

Saw It Monday. It was riviting. Amazing. Disturbing. Gripping. Numbing. All at the same time. I want to see it again. It was kind of lengthy. But that's nit picking. Worth every penny as a movie. First movie I've been too in a long while where I didn't question my decision to spend 10 bucks to see it when I can just dl it for free.

Definately the best movie this year. Like Lebron James, Sidney Crosby, Candace Parker (yea that's right), this movie had soooo much hype, and some how exceeded it. Hollywood has finally caught on that superhero movies can be solid dramas when NOT trying to be true to the comic, but based in realism. I was surprised at how major a role Harvey Dent was, and how little batman as a character, not just action scenes, was in it, but that made it more of a character driven piece than most dramas released recently. Definitely gotta go see it again tho in imax

I just got back from seeing it and oh my goodness this movie was awesome. About an hour and a half into the movie I just started laughing at how awesome the movie is. Best drama I've seen in theatres since 3:10 to Yuma and best movie I've seen since The Departed. I'm a little sad that Harvey Dent is already gone and he won't be a focal point of the next film because he was great. Heath Ledger was fantastic and will probably win an Oscar for it, especially since he's dead and will get sympathy votes too. I am glad that the Katie Holmes/Maggie Gyllenhal character is dead because that character always annoyed me plus I want the female lead in a movie like that to be really hot, like the Russian balerina.

I guess Catwoman is the next villian up then ain't she? Since when Bruce Wayne was asking if the new suit could handle dog bites and Lucius said it'll work on cats, that's what I'm figuring

Agreed. Remember the scene where Batman tosses the mob guy off the building and the mob guy says "You know that fall isn't enough to kill me" and Batman said "I'm counting on it?" That scene was going through my head that whole sequence. Also I don't think it will be Catwoman next, mostly because the director has said he'd like to focus on some comic villains who haven't been in the movies yet. On the other hand, that Catwoman with Halle Barry was truly awful, maybe they need to clean the brand up. Anyway, if someone really wants to watch a review of The Dark Knight check out Stephen A. and Skip Bayless discussing it at
firejoemorgan.com
, and enjoy the commentary provided on that site as well.

The biggest thing that everyone missed, I think, from the Stephen A./Skip moron-fest is when Stephan A said that Halle, et al should have played Rachel. Last time I checked, there were some subtle differences between the African-American women and Katie Holmes.

I also did not think Maggie was awful - I like her as an actress, and thought she was a HELL of a lot better than Holmes.

Holmes wasn't bad. Rachel Dawes just sucks as a character. She's the assistant DA in the worst city in the world, yet she has no strength or edge. Definitely the weakest link in both of Nolan's Batman movies.

That being said, people keep overlooking the awesomeness that is Gary Oldman. Thank God the Nolans decided Gordon could be more than just a bumbling idiot in the background.

I caught that too, unsurprisingly Stephen A. only suggested black women, but his borderline race-baiting arguments aren't really worthy of mention anymore. I agree that character of Rachel Dawes is a total non-entity who is essentially thrust in there so that there's a so-called female lead. That being said, if you are going to have a meaningless female part (and Rachel Dawes doesn't have a chance when put next to the Joker and Harvey Dent), then you should fill it with as hot a girl as possible, and Maggie just doesn't qualify, especially when put next to Katie Holmes.

I thought Maggie was a poor casting choice as well.

Can we expect the Joker to be on sabatical for the next film? The way it left off, you find it hard to believe there'd be a whole next movie without him. Then in thinking about it, they could have 3 more movies with him, and they'd still probably kick ass.

My biggest problem was the continuation issue they'll have from Heath's Joker to how they stared the first batman movie. Remember, he was in the chair getting his make up put on, when he saw it for the first time. Maybe they'll play it off like he's going for a new look, a more happy looking Joker...which could be brilliant if they can do the transition well.

It would be really hard for them to transition the Joker to anything else after what Heath did. I don't think that a kinder/gentler Joker played by anyone really fits with the themes that Nolan is going for, so I don't see that happening. More likely, there are probably a number of Ledger scenes that were cut and can be rearranged to give the Joker little cameos in future films. When you say the first Batman movie are you talking about Batman Begins or Tim Burton's Batman (or Adam West's seminal Batman: The Movie)? My understanding is that we're essentially starting over and that the Tim Burton/Joel Schumacher movies don't count.

Yeah, Nolan's series is completely seperate from all other Batman movies. Don't expect anything to add up or connect.

Ah..that makes sense. I was thinking they'd try to pull off a Star Wars type deal....with the prequels.

I hope everyone learned their lesson from that mess. Anyone going to see the Clone Wars cartoon?
