Lakers vs. Celtics

Been down on him for a while - but actually thought this was quite good, and exactly what was going on in my mind.

I was really happy for Ray, KG, and Pierce last night. The big three were just awesome. You can think what you want on the Pierce injury, but that dude is tough on tough. This is just not a series without him.

There was definitely some worry by me if the C's could match-up with the Lakers, but if they can keep their rebounding edge, they can win this series.

Please don't call them the Big Three, with your NBA connections you might have the juice to at least slow down that trend. There was only one Big Three.

I was just happy for KG, Ray, and Pierce last night.

The "Big Three" I was talking about were Tony Allen, Brian Scalabrine, and Eddie House. Without their cheering the C's were f'd.

Fair enough, I was particularly impressed by the way Tony Allen gutted through his Achilles injury to cheer his teammates on.

These playoffs have been a disaster. That's the only word I can think of to describe them. Any situation that forces me to root for Kobe Bryant is a fucking disaster.

How can anyone outside of Los Angeles root for the Lakers? The flags alone are enough to seal them into the piece of shit role (driving back from LA over the weekend I saw more than enough of those things, they are worse than the wave).

I always root for the Lakers to lose, but the fact that Bostonians think that they are the greatest shit alive every time one of their teams win really make me reconsider rooting for the Lakers.

Between the Pats & R-Sox, I think they've tasted enough champagne for the next couple of decades.

I don't watch the NBA but if I did this would make me swear it off. That's why Gabe says its a disaster. We either have to hear about how great Kobe is if the Lakers win, or we get a bunch of New Englanders that are even more full of shit than they already are. Of course if the Lakers win, I'm sure we'll hear about how an NBA title would've just been iceing on the cake and it didn't matter they lost.

After watching highlights today, Paul Pierce is the next Hulk Hogan. He needs to be carried off, pushed away in a wheelchair, then Hulks up and is back on the court in a couple minutes? Reminds me of Mateen Cleaves hobbling off the court in the NCAA title game and then running around dancing after MSU won. You obviously ain't hurt that bad

Can't we just ask where their green gear has been since Pitino took over? I'm so over the Boston bandwagoners.

Would you show up to a game to watch the second worst team in the NBA? or to watch a coach who derided the fanbase and the team's history and thinks HE is the biggest star on the team? or a team whose offensive philosophy was "Shoot as many threes as you can"? I love going to C's games, but for a long time I wouldn't go, for the same reason I STILL won't go to Bruins games... I'm not going to put my hard earned money in the pockets of crappy owners who won't make an effort to actually win or a team that is CLEARLY trying to LOSE! How much incentive is there for a team to put together a winning team if they're selling out the arena and getting great broadcast ratings with a shitty/cheap one? Not a lot. There's a competitive desire sure, but not all the ownership groups out there are driven by competition, a lot are driven by nothing more or less than the almighty buck. Much as I dislike the Steinbrenners, I respect their competitive fire.

As for Pierce, the dude probably scared the shit out of himself. All this time trying to get to the finals and he goes down like that hearing, as he said, 'a pop' and his first thought is gonna be "Fuck, it's over for me! I get to play half of one finals game and that's it?" Of course he freaked out.

As someone who is from NJ and a knicks fan, and goes to school in the heart of Bandwagon Nation, and lives with three guys from boston who claim to love sports, my own personal experiences have been enough to prove to me the marketing genius that is Boston sports.
One year ago, I would put on NESN or CSN or wherever they played on in a room full of 10-15 "Boston" fans. They would tell me to shut that shit off, or that noone cares about the C's. My exact response was, thats fine, but if youre not upset when they suck, then you're not a true fan, even if theyre good again, you have no right to root for them as idiotically as only new englanders can.
Sure enough, one year later, and I can't watch the 4th quarter of a Spurs/Hornets game because the C's are about to start and "we can't miss a minute."

Wish you were here in 04 Seth, you coulda watched Bren throw the Red Sox under the bus, renounce his fandom, hop back on the bangwagon, disappear for a week, act like nothing happened and not get out World Series boxes until November

Here's the thing, most sports fans are human. I freely admit to being only a tangential Celtics fan, my team is the Warriors, but I mean come on, Boston fans are annoying trumps LA's superstar raped a girl in Colorado and did everything he could sabotage his team and force a trade until they magically got Pau Gasol in terms of which team is more unlikable?

Watching these last two games... the officiating is making it very difficult to take this series seriously. Game 1 didn't seem too bad, but 2 and 3 have been completely ridiculous.

On the plus side, how funny was KG snubbing Cassell? In all seriousness though, the officials should have been warned especially with the Donaghy allegations coming out today. There were some pretty egregious calls/no calls tonight.
