Jair Jurrjens picked up his 5th win of the season, limiting a solid Mets offense to 5 hits and 1 earned in 7 ip's. Jurrjens only struck out 1 batter - but in watching most of the game, the Mets never really centered the ball on him well at all. While not having overwhelming stuff, Jurrjens is incredibly efficient at not elevating his pitches until he is ahead in the count - and all his pitches move.
For the year, Jair is 5-3 with a 2.64 era and a 1.17 whip. The era is good for 5th in the NL, and the whip for 15th.
I'm knowledgeable that Jair's era will settle higher at some point this year, but he's showing incredible maturity as a 22-year old at the MLB level - and it never hurts to have a young Braves pitcher.
While my offense is certainly of the elder statesmen variety, my rotation for next year goes; Carmona (24), Escobar (32), Saunders (26), Jurrjens (22), and Hill (28).

Two '07 draft picks made the 2008 debuts across the past two weeks:
Brandon Hamilton pitched 4 innings twice, with wildly different results. In this first outing, Hamilton did not let up a hit through 4 ip's, and struck out 6. In the second outing, Hamilton let up 3 runs on 5 hits w/o k'ing a batter in 4 ip's. This is pretty much going to be par for the course until this incredibly talented, but incredibly raw talent puts it together - or falls apart trying.
Timothy Bascom was excellent in his HA debut, allowing 1 unearned run on 5 hits in 5 ip's to pick up the win. Bascom is a very polished arm for a 23-year old and should move fast - but lacks the raw stuff of a Hamilton. Bascom's success will hinge on his abilities to keep his average to slightly above average repertoire down in the zone.
