CES Playoff eligibility
Hey guys I'd like you to take a look at Christian Encarnacion-Strand's status.
He has been playing in Arizona leading up to the Arizona Fall League games, which start on Monday. He is on the Glendale AFL roster. Links showing him playing recently vs other organizations teams are available on instagram @troycollinsbaseballlife
Apparently there is some history regarding AFL appearances and eligibility with one of the Profar's. Please review and let me know if/when he may play.
Thanks.

It seems to me that in recent memory, our rule has been that if you're hurt to end the season, you can't play. And if that player's team makes the playoffs, you have to be on the active roster of the wc, ds, cs, or ws for that team to be eligible. Based on that, I say he's ineligible.
Re: CES Playoff eligibility
The IBC rules clearly state that a player can't become injured during the playoffs.

Right. He's been hurt since April, right?
Re: CES Playoff eligibility
Yup, you addressed two separate issues in your earlier post. The second one (which didn't apply to CES) was what my response was about.
CES had wrist surgery and is actually no longer hurt. He has been playing complex league games versus other teams the last few weeks. The Reds sadly were out of it, so no reason to fly him to Cincy to play when he was going to play in the AFL next week.

I'm abstaining from a vote given I am playing vs. Ken, but here is a point of reference for an injured player during the season and the AFL.

Re: CES Playoff eligibility
From Fangraphs today ... Christian Encarnacion-Strand will participate in some Fall League games.
Encarnacion-Strand was part of the Reds’ contingent participating in the Arizona Fall League to get at-bats and make up for lost time. He underwent surgery on July 11 to repair ligament damage in his hand. Encarnacion-Strand was diagnosed with a right ulnar styloid fracture on the inside of his hand near his wrist on May 8, and he also has ligament damage in the same area.

He has been playing. AFL starts Monday. I'll leave it up to Pat, Brett, Nils, and Jim and go from there. Thanks for taking a look at it.
Re: CES Playoff eligibility
After thinking this through a bit more It seems the more logical approach may be to wait and see if he plays starting Monday and consider whether he is eligible after that. So that would mean he is not eligible for the LDS, but should the IBC Reds advance to the LCS a decision would be needed before that.
