As we head into the off-season, a point for everyone to consider:
As been our rule and policy for several years, teams may bid on players returning to the U.S. from foreign leagues through the zips bidding process that occurs every off-season. Teams may not pick up any former MLB-affiliated player via free agency. Teams, may, however, use a roster spot to stash a player who moves from MLB to a foreign league. Should a team drop that player, he remains ineligible for free agent pickup and must only be acquired via zips bidding.
Just making a note since inevitably as off-season rumors begin swirling about guys who did well in Japan or Korea, teams will want to try to get a jump on pickups.
While we're here: foreign players who have never been affiliated with MLB who come over are subject to the draft.
