Nice to see one of our youngsters off to a nice start in ST. Jurrjens will likely serve as the fourth or fifth starter for IBC Cubs.Jair Jurrjens was perfect for three innings, striking out two, in the Braves' 4-1 victory over the Indians on Wednesday.
It was a no-hitter until Danny Sandoval delivered an RBI double off Colter Bean in the ninth. Jurrjens faced five regulars in an exceptional outing. He's the clear leader to serve as the fifth starter if the Braves need a replacement for Chuck James early on.

Joe Saunders blanked the Twins for eight innings as the Angels won 1-0 on Wednesday night.
Francisco Rodriguez concluded a four-hitter. Saunders got off to a very good start after entering the rotation last year, amassing a 3.25 ERA in his first 11 starts. However, he did fade in August and September. The Angels need him to be more consistent this season, especially with Kelvim Escobar out. He could provide value in AL-only leagues all year long.
Jair Jurrjens picked up a victory in his Braves debut after allowing two runs in 5 1/3 innings against the Pirates on Wednesday night.
Jurrjens took a shutout into the sixth, when he allowed three hits and a walk to score two runs. That got him yanked in favor of Jeff Bennett, who immediately got out of the inning with a double play. Jurrjens ended up striking out five and walked one. He's looking like a solid option in NL-only leagues.
Two of the many talented arms on the IBC Cubs had solid season debuts yesterday.

I'm sorry, make that three of the many talented arms...
John Danks took a no-hitter into the sixth and ended up allowing one run over 6 2/3 innings Thursday in the White Sox's 2-1 win over the Indians.
Casey Blake broke it up leading off the sixth. Danks pitched around the single that inning, but he did give up a run on a walk and a Ryan Garko double in the seventh. Unfortunately, that tied the game, and since Danks wasn't allowed to finish the seventh, he didn't get the win when the White Sox pulled back ahead in the eighth. It went to Octavio Dotel, who retired the only hitter he faced. Scott Linebrink and Bobby Jenks pitched perfect eighth and ninth innings to close it out and get the White Sox their first win. Danks ended up with two strikeouts and two walks in an 87-pitch outing. He gets the Twins and A's next, so he's worth using in AL-only leagues.

2B Kelly Johnson contributed a pinch-hit grand slam against the Mets. Johnson is currently hitting .429.
1B Ryan Garko has started the season with 7 hits in five games, 3 of them for extra bases including a three-run homer.
Cubs Ace Chris Young held the Astros to one run in 5 2/3 innings and earned a win on Tuesday.

Chris Young held the Dodgers to two runs while striking out eight batters in seven innings of work on Sunday but still wasn't involved in the decision of a 3-2 Padres' loss.
Young walked three and gave up five hits, with one of the runs coming on an Andre Ethier home run. With two good outings to start the year, the back problems that bothered Young at the end of last season appear to have subsided for now. He's no lock to avoid further problems all season, but a new condiditioning program this off-season adds reason for some optimism. He'll get the Dodgers again next time out.
AND....
Kyle Lohse shut out the Nationals for seven innings on Sunday en route to picking up a victory in a 3-0 game.
Lohse gave up four hits and struck out two while walking one. He also didn't yield a run in his first outing of the season, so Lohse is off to a fast start despite not signing until mid-March.

Kyle Lohse allowed two runs in seven innings versus a potent Brewers lineup on Thursday. The stellar outing left him with a 1.48 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, and he remains perfect in the W/L section at 2-0.

Pleasant surprises for the IBC Cubs:
Mike Napoli hit his ninth and 10th homers Sunday as the Angels destroyed the Dodgers 10-2 to take two out of three in the "Freeway Series."
Napoli would have moved into a tie for the AL lead, but Carlos Quentin hit his 11th today. Napoli also singled and finished with five RBI.
And my man Gregorio Petit made his major league debut today, going 2 for 3 with a walk and a double. And the dude can fucking field.Skip Schumaker doubled in Jason LaRue in the bottom of the ninth to break a 4-4 tie and lift the Cardinals to a victory over the Rays on Sunday afternoon.
The Cards tied the game in the eighth on a two-run single by Aaron Miles, and rallied for the winning run against Gary Glover one inning later. Schumaker also put the Cardinals on the board with an RBI single in the sixth.
