Shaun Marcum is done for the rest of the year because of the arm injury that caused him to leave Tuesday's start.
It sounds like Marcum might need an operation. Results of his MRI have been sent to Dr. James Andrews for another opinion.
It looks like the Jays cost themselves the servicses of Shaun Marcum next season by pitching him when he was still hurting this year.

Shaun Marcum will undergo Tommy John surgery and could miss all of 2009.
Maybe it would have happened anyway, but it needs to be remembered that the Jays had Marcum back pitching in games within a month when he went down with a sore elbow earlier this season and kept running him out there despite clearly diminished velocity and poor command, two signs that he was still injured. While it's hard to argue with the results the Jays have had on the mound lately, this is the third young pitcher they've had go down with a major arm injury in the last year. Dustin McGowan and Casey Janssen were the others.

Yup, I wasn't too pleased when they brought him back, though it sounds like it might have been a ticking time bomb kind of injury anyway. It's good news for you and Texas next year. Can I please get a ruling on Fred Lewis?

Fred Lewis is eligible for Oakland for the remainder of the year.

You don't need him.

He deserves a spot on my post season roster... guy wants a ring... And in real life he would do everything he could to provide some help off my bench...
gotta let him play!

He had an at bat for you, so he's eligable to get a ring if you win. I mean Sidney Ponson got a ring for being a shitty player in 2006

Todd Helton will have back surgery Tuesday to alleviate a disk problem.
"Dr. (Robert) Watkins this afternoon said Todd will benefit from a microdiscectomy," trainer Keith Dugger said. "Basically, they take a small piece of the disk where itÃs bulging and it takes pressure off the nerve thatÃs irritated. He thinks itÃll be a very successful surgery. Ö One key for him will be not playing in a fatigued state. We need to make sure to be smart and give him rest." It could be that Jeff Baker will start over Helton against left-handers next year.
The official ExCo ruling (with 3 votes) is no Helton.

MY BACK!
Sorry Mr. Helton, but you will not be on the post season roster. Luckily I still have a guy named Pujols who can play 1B if needed.

Have I expressed my dislike for your roster lately?

I believe you have. However, in case my guys forgot be sure to mention it to them in the first round of the playoffs.

Need a ruling on Scott Downs.
Scott Downs has been shut down for the season with an ankle injury.
Downs has been considered day-to-day since re-injuring his ankle two weeks ago. He finishes a career-best season with a 1.78 ERA and 57/27 K/BB ratio in 70 2/3 innings.

I'd like to raise issue with Jeff Francis being shut down for the season.
"The Rockies announced that they're scratching Jeff Francis from his start Tuesday and shutting him down for the rest of the season. Francis has been dealing with renewed soreness in his shoulder in his last two starts. "There’s some discomfort," he said. "I don’t think it’s anything serious.""
If the Rockies were a contending team, I don't think that Francis would be shelved with soreness...they are playing it cautiously due to his earlier DL stint. Ruling, perhaps?

Francis is fine to play.

Per Rotoworld: Yankees manager Joe Girardi said Mariano Rivera would have surgery to remove calcification over the AC joint in his throwing shoulder.
Rivera is expected to be ready for the beginning of spring training, though he'll have his usual relaxed workload in March.
Is he in or out?

Definitely in. He pitched on September 28th...if Fred Lewis is in, Rivera is in.

I'm planning on using Dallas Braden, any objections?

Talks are still ongoing in ExCo as to Braden's eligibility and are guaranteed to last at least until tomorrow. How soon do you need a ruling? We're doing our best to get a ruling out asap, but feel that the precedent and gravity of the ruling requires taking a very close look at it.

Braden has been ruled eligible.
