There's a difference. Some Yankee fans are assholes. All Red Sox fans are assholes.

The thing is, I don't think most Sox fans would be crushed. Me, I see this as gravy. yes, it would suck to have that kind of collapse, but getting back to the WS 3 seasons later is pretty awesome.
As for abandoning my team, I abandoned the hope that they'd win. 25 years of being taught to expect the worst, and having it happen over and over, will do that to you.
