2012 draft discussion

The place to come to talk about all things IBC related. Or not IBC related. Just keep it reasonably respectful.

I debated between Seager and another hitter at 14. Getting a solid hitter in the system was part of the reason I dealt for the pick in the first place. I thought the queue system just organized players, so I guess it's good I had prioritized and put Seager at the top...I was surprised to learn I had drafted :)
Getting a lefty hitter with a solid frame who seems to have solid pitch recognition, power and speed as a shortstop (who will likely eventually move to 3b) with a good pedigree seems like a plus. I think he'll turn into a pretty solid regular or more and the Dodgers don't have a whole lot in the system to challenge him.
Fried certainly has a nice ceiling and already making some top 100 lists is tempting, but ultimately felt like I have enough good young pitching to hold off for now.

Thank you all for letting Heaney fall to me, didn't even spend much time on him because I didn't think I had a chance, but once Stratton (my top target) went I started to look him up and loved what I saw. Hopefully Johan can teach him all he needs to know about being a stud lefty when IBC pitchers and catchers report.

I am a big Marrero believer, so I am very happy with my draft. Zimmer was kind of a surprise option at 10 when I wanted a hitter, so it was nice to grab the top two hitters on my board by pick 16 or so in the 20's. This has been a fun draft and I look forward to pick 40.

I just wish there were some major league hitters to buy.

I had one guy in my queue - and the Marlins take him the pick before me. Yasiel 12-Puig.

Sorry. Had to pull the trigger. Couldn't pass on lining up a future Marlins OF of Puig-Springer-Myers.

I was really, really hoping Cecchini would keep falling. Although, with Correa and Machado, I dunno what I'd have done with him. Pretty pleased with Stroman though, I need more arms (who doesn't?).

I actually took Roache cause I have so many SP prospects I like. There were a couple pitchers I was considering, but my OF depth is lacking so I figured might as well go with a power college bat and hope he works out

Thought Stroman would make it to me. Went Fujikawa for present value and De Paula and Garcia as guys who'll likely start next year in A+ and AA ball. With 4 more picks, plenty of time for the 17 year olds that have been a fixture of my last couple drafts.

He is probably half drunk, half watching football, half managing his job, hence not paying enough attention to this league.

That's some Yogi Berra math there...

What are friends for...and should have kept your 2nd rounder if you wanted a better pitcher. ;)

It's funny because I traded down 8 spots to get an extra pick. Still got a high upside arm, but had Weickel behind those 3.

If I didn't take Thompson, I was going to take Weickel. I really wanted Mitch Brown - but he didn't last.

Brown was 3rd on my list. Then I looked and realized I hadn't marked off my top 2 choices when they were picked 20-30 picks ago

I was hoping to grab one of the two Tigers prospects in the last 10 picks, but I have set my queue, so it will draft past me.

Since Alford is going to have to sit for a year after transferring to Ol Miss, hoping he finds his baseball groove.

Had Alford real high on my list, can't imagine he's doing anything but baseball in the long run. Just hope his arrest record doesn't cause him immigration problems in Canada...

I mulled over Alford but couldn't pass up the #33 pick that should move fast this late. Plus he's an Indiana kid, even if he went to Purdue for some reason
