Nothing new to add...just waiting on Brett...but I will affirm that Nate never responded to me.

I don't think that you need to wait on anything from me, do you? We already have five votes, and this is a really tough call for me. He hasn't completely disappeared; he's just infrequent and unreliable, and at the same time has one of the 2-3 best teams in the league that he spent years building (though largely by ripping weak sisters off in the early days). And I am troubled by his comment about his playoff chances affecting his call on quitting.

The post-Nate part of this is what really gives me pause, because the most stable thing that we can do is actually continue putting up with Nate. I don't think that we are anywhere near ready to give his team to someone else, and when we do, we're either going to have to break it up via minidraft or give it to someone who we're 100% confident in.

I've never completely understood the 'no-playoffs for bots' rule, as I think it's more unstable to have a first place team eliminated from the playoff picture than to have a team managed by the exco, particularly since this directly affects two exco members (and I mean there's no way around that, both JP and Aaron can make the playoffs if Nate's out, and one of them absolutely can't if Nate's here). I would recommend calling this an exco managed team for this season or something, as opposed to having it be a bot and excluding it from the playoffs. We can have Jim, Andrew and me share responsibility for it or something.

And as much as I'm not a fan of minidrafts, this is a unique situation, and I think that we should maybe look at some creative ideas for breaking his roster up.

I think it's probably something we should all be on board with, since it is a pretty major decision. I'd consider his inability to adjust to injured players and general lack of participation (last post April 22nd, last transaction April 6) to be pretty close to disappeared for league purposes.

I'm not sure putting up with Nate is really that stable, considering we're going to have to basically manage his team or continue to tack on DL penalties, which are getting ridiculous at this point.

Regarding playoffs, JP and I both seem to agree that having the team be able to make the playoffs (probably solely for the fact that JP and Aaron might indeed come off looking bad), yet having to continue the injury penalties might make the most sense--to "hamper" the team if you will (since DL penalties also carryover for traded players, why not GM vacancies). Does the "ExCo managed" team have roster moves made for them, or just lineup adjustments?

Yeah. I do think the team should be playoff eligible and just hope like hell that it doesn't make the playoffs. As Shawn said, I do think that the fair solution to make everybody come out looking good is to allow the team to make the playoffs, have the AL ExCo take care of the lineups/DL and whatnot, but the DL penalties stay with the team through the season. It's only Halladay, Vlad, Gronkie and Linden at this point anyway and I doubt the last two are even a factor and Halladay is eligible to return for the first full week of August anyway. The premise is that when a player is dealt, the penalty stays with them and I think that makes sense enough here.

But it does look like we are all at least in agreement that Nate is done here. So now it just seems to be figuring out what exactly to do with the roster.

Brennan asked, but I don't really want to publish this to the entire league...Nate last logged into the site on 6/20. Next least recent GM is John on 7/15, but he's on vacation.

OK since it looks like Nate is gone, we need to figure out exactly what to do with the roster.

I think in terms of roster management, small add/drops should be allowed but no trades by the ExCo/league manager.

How about allowing any new GM who joined the IBC since the last minidraft the option of participating in the next one?

Shawn should announce on behalf on the ExCo that Nate is gone and that Jim, Andrew and Brett P will co-manage the the team the remainder of the year. I will take the rest of July and then we'll figure out if either of the other two want to do so for part or all of August. I will not enter into any trades during my portion of the co-management though I do not believe that needs to be broadcast ...

I agree with all of this.

As do I. In the meantime we can continue to toss around ideas as to what we can do with the Reds.

Just so that we don't get sidetracked on the current issues as we talk more about what to do with the team past this year, I'm going to start a new thread to discuss Reds, post-2009 season. At this point, I don't think that anyone has objected to having the team alive for the playoffs (given the unique circumstances), managed by the exco, and the three AL GMs have agreed that we're willing to be responsible for managing it day-to-day. JP, Jim, Andrew and I have all agreed that we're basically not going to be making trades, but that there's not really any reason to go around announcing that.

Let's flesh out any differences we have and get to a finalized plan for this season that we can announce.

I told JP to speak for me while I was gone and he pretty much did. We need to go ahead and announce to the league that Nate is gone, IMO, just to quiet everyone, then we can figure out what we're gonna do with the Reds after this year in the meantime.

Might as well make it eligable for the playoffs too. The selfish part of me says no, get him out of the way cause well, I want to make the playoffs again and its a lot easier with that team outta the way. But it's best for the league that it don't look fishy, that the Reds can make the playoffs
