I highly doubt you'll be able to H2H between v9 and v10, considering you couldn't even H2H off 9A vs 9C.

Also, while I'll be purchasing the program, I will not be sharing it. Currently, V9 costs 49.95. Plus the disc will bring it up to 69 or 79 or something. I'm fine with sharing the projection disc, but the software you guys are on your own for. I probably make the least of anybody here while I'm in school and will be shelling it out. Considering the company nearly went belly up last year, I think it's best for everybody to support it and purchase V10 and show some support for DMB, especially when I'm guessing most of you are on copies you didn't purchase.

I agree that a mass bootlegging isn't the best thing for the league, and if you buy v10 that's great, we should all support DMB, but I also think that an overall switch to v10 by the league should be done by vote, otherwise we'll be back to a have and havenot structure as far as the sim is concerned.
Each and every time is a little strong considering there has only been one version upgrade in the league's existence that happened with a very different set of GMs. There's a big difference between a patch that fixes a few issues (and is free) and a new game (that costs money). I'm not saying that we shouldn't switch, I'm just saying that everyone should switch or no one should.
The Have and Have Not structure applied more to access to the stats and to being able to sim mock seasons, which I suspect people will still be able to do. Submitting roster files may not work, but that's a lesser issue although if the switch is made, JP should consider that there's a high likelihood that many rosters, at least initially, will have to be submitted manually (i.e. old school like when the league first started).
As for the cost involved... total required expenditure over the last seven seasons for anyone who is a 'normal' GM (i.e. not doing the sim or running the website.. $0. DMB almost went under, in no small part I'm sure due to other leagues sharing data and programs. suck it up and buy it. There's nothing in the rules saying you have to buy it, but there's also nothing in the rules saying the league can't upgrade because people are cheap bums.

FYI.
I have spoken a lot with Diamond Mind recently (again today), and it appears the Projection disk for 2009 is unlikely at this point.
Feel free to call Pat at Diamond Mind and ask for yourself - 800-400-4803.
The money-maker is the season disk, so maybe if they knew how many people were interested in V-10 w/ '09 proj-disk, maybe it would make a difference?

I'm really curious what percentage of DMB leagues use their projection disc vs. season disc. If it's really strongly one way or the other then maybe eliminating one makes sense.DBacks wrote:FYI.

Anybody who has NOT purchased the discs should NOT email them. You're better off with a phone call.
Also, if this does happen, we have nobody to blame but ourselves and the bunches of other leagues like this. I've purchased the past 3? years or so of proj discs personally and a fair share of season discs. I doubt more than 5 of you actually purchased them. If all 30 of us had, that could have made a pretty decent difference. Regardless, that's that.
Hopefully they changed their minds. I sent an email on Tuesday and have received no reply. I will also e-mail Prospectus to see if they still plan on putting PECOTA into DMB. If they do, then we're better off with that route anyway. As of last August, they had planned to.

I have bought every year (including the season discs for another league since I got into SIM and plan to buy v. 10). I am also not as sure as some seem to be that there will not be a projection disc ...Pirates wrote:Anybody who has NOT purchased the discs should NOT email them. You're better off with a phone call.

Being an old traditional guy I sent DMB a plea via snail mail and will share the response upon receipt ...

Sorry, was your question to them when the projection disk is coming or if it is?RedSox wrote:From jan 23:
Hi Brendan,
It has not been decided yet - we're trying to figure out how/when we can produce the projection disk along with keeping the other projects on track. We'll announce something when we have something to announce via email newsletter and on the DMB forum.
Thanks,
Pat
