I think a lot of announcers use the term 'Ace' differenly than we think of it. I (and I think most other members here based on past arguments) think of an ace as one of the top few pitchers in baseball. I think most announcers use 'Ace' as a term for the #1 SP on the staff, which Buehrle has generally been for the White Sox.
Buehrle is Andy Pettite without the hype. As JP and I discussed a few weeks ago, Pettitte got too much credit, buehrle doesn't get enough. Find a medium between the two and you'd be just about right.
He's 29, has thrown 200+IP each of the last 8 seasons (every year of his career except when he broke in at 21) and is 17th among active SP in ERA+.
He's not an ace, and never will be one, but he's damn good.
