Slack for League Communication

The place to come to talk about all things IBC related. Or not IBC related. Just keep it reasonably respectful.

Slack for League Communication

Post by BlueJays »

Just throwing an idea out there, but our team (work) is now using Slack for messaging. It's a pretty useful tool. You set up a team and invite people in to it. You can then set up channels, so we'd have a whole IBC channel, then you can even set up other channels, like maybe 1 for your division or whatever, and then you can also direct message each other. The mobile app is really nice too.

People won't even install hangouts on their phone.. :/

But I'd be in for having an actual league wide instant messaging system.

Closest we came to a league wide IM system was back in the day when we all used AOL Instant Messenger. That was actually a requirement in that first season since that was how I recruited, posted telling folks to message me on AIM if they were interested. Some of those group chats were such shitshows... Pretty sure we even did the initial league draft over AIM.
Good times.

For like the last 5 years I used aim it was exclusively for league trade talk. I think a slack channel is an ok idea as long as it's not abused.

The only reason I kept AIM as long as I did was for league communication. We did have the original draft in an AIM chat room

I'll get around to it after election day. It's just that I do such a poor job of managing multiple messaging services that I was hoping to just use text. Sorry if it made some feel slighted, that wasn't my intent.

I use slack for a couple of different things (including other sim leagues) and it's pretty slick.

I made my username my real name and my logo the Dodgers logo. Anyone want to mock up a teal Jays logo for Dan to use?

Shawn, I don't have a tigers@ibcleague.com address. Can that be linked to my Gmail account so I can use this slack channel?

Send me one as well, I occasionally use Slack for other stuff (Ingress, Pokemon GO), so I'd prefer to use the same sign-in.

Steven, Z, Bren, Jake: You already have firstnamelastname@ibcleague.com email addresses that you can use to sign in. (Bren, you can use different sign-ins for different teams at the same time)
Ian: sent you an @ibcleague email invite to your gmail

Ha. Ha. Ha.

Seriously. The old Blue Jays copy of the Pats logo is so ugly. Logo update?
