Carlos Correa - Year End Review
For the lack of hype around Correa, you know Astros fans have got to be kicking themselves for not getting Buxton in the draft last year. I mean, already 19 years old at A-ball and only a .320/.405/.467 line over 450 AB's? So disappointing...
Wait, what???
Okay, so Correa isn't exactly chopped liver, and he gets the recognition of prospect rankings, but you can't help but notice the dearth of excitement around him as a prospect. He gets very little attention for what he has done except when being compared to Buxton. You have to wonder when he's going to get the attention he deserves and stop being compared to Buxton and just be appreciated for the player he is. Buxton, who is a year older, certainly looks better right now, and will probably be the better player in the long run, but having to pick between Buxton and Correa is pretty much the definition of a Win-Win situation. CF and SS are both premium positions and Correa looks likely to stick. While he doesn't have the speed you would normally expect from a premium SS, he's got more than enough other tools to make him a likely All-Star candidate once he hits the majors, which will probably be in 2015.
Correa has the potential to hit along the lines of Manny Machado, while sticking at SS. That's enough for him to not have his selection as #1 pick by the Astros questioned in my book.
