Brandon McCarthy should be added ...

A's Brandon McCarthy alive and tweeting

In one of many good signs for Brandon McCarthy, the A's pitcher was tweeting from his hospital bed late Friday and Saturday morning.

"It does put a smile on your face," manager Bob Melvin said.

McCarthy, who had emergency surgery to relieve pressure on his brain Wednesday night after being hit in the head by a line drive that day, was very much his usual witty self on Twitter. His first tweet late Friday was a quote from his favorite TV show, Arrested Development, and presumably a reference to all the meds he has to take in the hospital: "Crazy about this children's Tylenol, can't believe they give it to kids."

On Saturday morning, he tweeted: The good news in all of this is that I set up my fantasy lineups beforehand. So there shall be no excuses at this point.

And he also responded to well-wishes from Patrick Willis of the 49ers, tweeting back: thanks buddy, I feel like I just got hit by you.

A's trainer Nick Paparesta detailed numerous other encouraging developments about McCarthy's condition Saturday, including the fact that McCarthy was much more verbal and had peppered his neurosurgeon with questions during the day. The tweeting, too, is a positive sign, Paparesta said.

A's starter Brett Anderson, McCarthy's closest friend on the team, said he liked to see that McCarthy is his regular sarcastic self. "It's good he hasn't lost his touch," he said.

Paparesta cautioned that because McCarthy is only three days removed from brain surgery, there remain some concerns, but overall, McCarthy is "progressing nicely."

"We're all very excited about it," Paparesta said.

Paparesta said that McCarthy might soon be moved out of the critical care unit to a transitional unit of the Bay Area hospital where he is being treated, still more cause for optimism.

Yea he's not listed because I never got around to fixing the bug that failed to take guys OFF the list. So it thinks he was still on it from earlier in the season. I swear it'll work better next year.

Not sure what your guys are talking about, he's already back on Twitter so I'm sure everything is fine and he'll be back on the mound shortly :D

In all seriousness get well soon B-Mac!
