Aaron Herr - a former 1st round pick

Post by Padres »

Aaron Herr was always one of those guys who seemed to show up in the DMB SIM database ... like Brooks Conrad. He played on a few IBC teams: view_player.php?id=753 and even managed to make Rotoworld at one point: http://www.rotoworld.com/content/player ... LB&id=4245.

For some reason while I have been looking over the most recent Zips build and related information, his absence from the SIM database was conspicious (I know ... very slow day in Maine ...) so I looked him up.

Turns out he is playing indie ball this year:

AARON HERR REJOINS BARNSTORMERS

An original member of the Lancaster Barnstormers has returned.

Infielder Aaron Herr, son of bench coach and former manager Tom Herr, signed a contract for the 2009 season, it was announced today.

The former Hempfield High star had been under contract with the Barnstormers for their inaugural season of 2005 but was signed by the St. Louis Cardinals just prior to the opening of the season. He went on to have one of his most productive seasons to date, batting .298 with 21 homers and 81 RBIs for Class AA Springfield, Mo.

Herr played for the Cincinnati Reds and Cleveland Indians organizations since then and in 2007, batted .274 with 19 home runs and 83 RBIs for Class AAA Louisville. His RBI total was third best among International League batters that season. He also finished second with 237 total bases and fourth with 55 extra-base hits.

Herr, 28, batted .221 with 11 homers and 40 RBIs between Buffalo and Louisville in the International League last season.

“Aaron’s an offensive power hitter and he brings an experienced defensive glove to our infield,” said Keith Lupton, Barnstormers senior vice president of baseball operations. “He’s excited about playing for his dad, and playing in front of his family and friends.”

The right-handed batting infielder was a first round sandwich pick for the Atlanta Braves in 2000, advancing to the Class AA level by 2004. His younger brother, Jordan, an outfielder, played for the Barnstormers last season and was signed by the Chicago White Sox organization last fall.
The Barnstormers also announced the completion of a trade with the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs that will bring catcher Adam Shorsher to Lancaster in exchange for Lance Burkhart. Shorsher, 28, led all Atlantic League starting catchers in throwing out base sealers in 2008 (33.3 percent), and hit .238 with 13 homers and 48 RBIs.

Herr and Shorsher’s signings bring the total number of Barnstormers under contract for the 2009 season to seven.
