OK, so what should we do here?
We have a few candidates/ people mentioned.
We have Jag's guy, Rowan, Gabe's guy Boyer and then seemingly everybody's guy Kegan, and then Ben Montgomery from BP.
I'm not sure what to think of everybody. I think it's imperative to have somebody that will be active and try to enjoy the league and try to actually field a good team- basically what Degan didn't. The guy doesn't have to be an uber genius (IMO), but should have a good grasp on farm systems etc... which is where I worry about Kegan. I don't really know if he follows the MILB much and I know he didn't when he was in the league. That said, when he was in the league, that was before the MILB was so crucial. Also, if he ends up inactive, that would be a problem too. I don't really have a problem bringing Kegan back into the league, personally, but under a couple pretenses. One, that he's on a pretty quick activity leash and two, that he takes his time to learn the nuances of how the shift of power and how rosters are built now. I'm not saying dictate him how to build a team, I'd never do that, but it's important to know the leagues new value system as opposed to 4-5 years ago.
I'm not sure where everybody else stands, but, we should start looking at this.

I agree with everything you've said. I have the same worries about Kegan and me and you have talked about it quite a bit. I think either JP or Shawn need to talk to Kegan and just try and gauge where he really is on coming back to the league, make sure he understands how different things are, knows what a tough division he's getting into, that it'll be a couple of years before he's competitive if he does a great job of rebuilding. If there are any worries, then I'd say no. My gut feeling is that Kegan won't have the time, sooner or later, to be active and probably won't be a long term solution. I just can't see him wanting a team that he won't be able to fix quickly, especially since there won't be a minidraft.
We need to send out the league info writeup Jim has fixed to the other guys after the discussion with Kegan to the other candidates, see what their responses are and go from there I think. We need to do this quick though, because pitchers and catchers report in less than 2 weeks and I don't want to drag our feet and next thing you know its mid-March and we've got an open team still

Yeah, I think we need better credentials than "this guy posts fast on the board." Plus, I didn't like what seemed to me like a potshot at Jake for no reason. Let's face it, Kelly's not, to use a southern colloquialism, settin' the woods on fire, and Jag was bragging about how great he was. Let's see what JP's personal ad gets, talk to those guys, talk to Boyer and somebody talk to KeganPirates wrote:I posted on the DMB Boards today. Hopefully we'll get some inquiries. I'm sure you've all seen Jag's email and it makes me want to vomit and not bring this Rowan guy into the league, just out of spite. He posts his rotation first....and?

I've had one guy email me today.
I would be interested. I am presently in DMBO league (4 years) Astros org...prefer the Proj Disk, even if we have to use other proj resources in future...let me know...
Thanks,

I believe I am in a league that Don is in ... found it:
Current Team General Managers by JaysGM
Don Swearingen has resigned...we now have a vacancy to fill in St. Louis.

We have just added a new GM for the Pirates Cardinals - Don Swearingen.
DON TOOK THE PIRATES ROSTER AND MOVED IT TO ST. LOUIS WHERE HE IS NOW GM FOR THE CARDINALS (DV) - PIRATES ARE NOW AVAILABLE WITH THE OLD CARDINALS ROSTER

I will say that the league, the FOTFP, is probably my least favorite and not terribly stable ... another league that Erik Thompson started (the Kirby Pluckett Memorial League), was ousted from and has struggled to find it identity. I have stayed active in it primarily because I like the young man who has taken on the responsibility as Commissioner and am attempting to support the effort he is putting in ... I also like a few of the other GMs.
I do have a concern that Don did not even stay engaged for one full season before quitting ... just my FWIW. Perhaps JP can ask him Don about this ...

Given that the FOFTP is sort of a joke, I'll still weigh that into consideration but not heavily. I asked him to tell us more about him, why he'd be good for us and his thoughts on having to be here for the long haul and he said this:
I have been in DMBO for about 4 years, going on my 5th. I have been involved in DMB online games since their inception in one way or another. I subscribe to all of the important sources, BA, BP, Shandlers Baseball Forecaster. I love the minor leagues, and follow the June draft intensely as thats what our DMBO draft "sort of" follows, ie, those guys are our main source of draft picks in our June draft. I would be looking to the long term, see the Astros in DMBO as they are a long term project as well.
DMBO is my only projection league and I think I now prefer that mode. I am a long-term member of SPBNow League (reigning champ too), the GAPL, and the SWBA. They are replay leagues using last years stats so they are much easier leagues, I find the projection leagues to be the most challenging so tend to now lean that way.
If it helps, my 12 y/o daughter played 2nd base and led off for the reigning Little League Softball World Series Champs from South Carolina.Leading hitter in the tournament too!
I am interested, long term aspirations, love rebuilding...let me know....

FWIW, I don't think this guy is great, or enough for us to stop looking. I do believe him to be better than Kegan or Rowan, from what I know on all three though. He does seem to want in and seems like he'd be willing to rebuild. I'm not blown away, but, given our current alternatives, I think he's a better option.
Like I said, we're probably better off continuing the search, but I don't think this guy is anything bad. Has anybody contacted Gabe's guy?

He's in another league with me. He's also in another DMB league. He's got plenty of experience and he's one of those prospect lovers you guys love lol. Anyway, you guys should at least talk to him if you haven't filled the spot yet. He definitely knows his stuff, and already owns the sim and everything so he's all set.

To be completely fair since the league has supported Kegan and I've asked Don and now Boyer to tell me something about them / why they would be good for the league, I'll send Kegan a message through facebook. I don't know his email address but I am friends with him on there so that should work. Basically it'll just be telling him that we know hes interested and tell him our concerns etc. Will post the reply when I get it.

That league is sort of a joke though. I was in it briefly, drafted a team etc., but it is truly all over the place. I wouldn't use that as a barometer personally, but if you'd like me to ask him about it I have no apprehensions doing it but I don't deem it relevant based on that league.WhiteSox wrote:I believe I am in a league that Don is in ... found it:

Kegan had this to say:
Hey JP, good to hear from ya. Time won't be an issue as it was the last time, I tore up my knee so I'm not playing soccer anymore, at least nothing more than recreational so I have plenty of free time outside of classes and work. I've been keeping up with prospects and such through baseball america ever since I left the league, so I have fairly solid grip on that end. My chief concern in joining the league would basically be reacquainting myself with the software and how the league is run in terms of free agency, trades, etc.. I'm sure I could pick that up pretty quickly though through talking with Aaron, DT, and yourself.
Well anyways, look forward to hearing from ya either way and if it doesn't work out, keep me in my mind for future slots. Thanks.

Finally recovering from a flu that had me missing some teaching, the last regular season HS basketball games and limited my internet time to quick and infrequent check-ins ... been a couple of years since I felt like I had been hit by a truck ... and I hope it is, at least, a couple more.
Want to weigh in on the new GM issue ... I understand and appreciate the due diligence this vacancy is receiving but I hope you all understand that is important all applicants receive an equal opportunity to be considered - partcularly if he is referred by an existing GM.
I am concerned (and I am not singling you out JP for criticism as this falls on you simply because you are the ExCo representative "interviewing" potential GMs) that Mark Rowan has not received at least an acknowledgement of his interest and a cursory interview. I will say that I believe Mark is an active and interested GM in the WIBL whose style is closer to mine then it is Kelly's. I also believe we can not judge Kelly's success (or lack thereof) based on just one season and we certainly can not assume that all referrals from JT will attempt to manage a roster in the same manner as Kelly. Who knows ... Mark could end up trying to build a roster closer in style to JT ...
Bottom line: JP should attempt to set aside personal feelings and give Mark an honest " interview" on behalf on the ExCo and let's see what he has to say.
And thank you JP for taking on this role!
