Eric O'Flaherty

Post by Rangers »

Well, this is kind of frustrating. I don't really think that anyone in particular is completely to blame, but I just realized that Seattle has had "Eric 0-O'Flaherty" since last August on his roster. I signed Eric O'Flaherty, who was in the DB, this May, not realizing that we'd gone like ten weeks with that one not cleared up.

It's just a little frustrating that I've been basically playing a man short for the last month, considering how closely I monitor the back of my roster and how how valuable Jagger and I and others view roster spots as. Also, I dealt Rafael Perez to JB because I felt like I had a decent lefty in O'Flaherty. Now I've got zero usable lefties for my pen for next season.

Maybe we can work out a rule in the future where you need to identify the guys from your team who are in the DB but listed as 0-'s. I know we've tried our best to get them switched, but maybe we could put a little more responsibility on the GMs to identify them for themselves by a certain date?

I typically would have caught it when you signed him, however the past month most of my free time has been dedicated to my backyard project and with all the signing and dropping of players that goes on these days, I missed your signing of him.

He's been on my inactive roster in the database all season, however he's one that must have slipped through in getting updated in OOPSS.

Not to be bearer of bad news, but, prove me right or wrong, I thought at some point we had said check your roster (early April) and let us know of any corrections or you risk losing your player if something like this did come up. Maybe O'Flaherty was input when the updated season disk came out, I'm not sure. Anyone want to do the legwork on either of those items? Like Brennan I have been quite busy of late.

I have no clue whether O'Flaherty was in the original database that came out before ST or a later update. He's been on my roster in the database since whenever it was so obviously someone knew who's roster he was on at the time.

O'Flaherty's name in OOPSS was mispelled by whoever updated OOPSS, so it is possible I didn't see him if he was in there due to whoever messed up the spelling of his name.

It's a matter of whenever OOPSS was updated and I'm pretty sure I checked when the original database was sent out at the beginning of the season but it's entirely possibly I overlooked it, despite having caught all the other updates at the time.

I have an email where Bren states emphatically, again, that OOPSS will be the system of record for rosters and that what's in there is what counts and not what is in the DMB database.

Of course this is a matter of a duplicate causing a problem for a player that has already been in the OOPSS system and already been on a roster for a considerable amount of time. This isn't a matter of one system (DMB Database) having a player on one team and the OOPSS system having him on another team. O'Flaherty has been on the M's in the database and been on the M's roster in the OOPSS system for quite a while, as Brett noted.

I haven't been able to find the email where Bren says that duplicates not being noticed in the OOPSS system will result in the original team losing said player, but that doesn't mean there isn't one out there.

I also don't know if O'Flaherty was in the original database or added in the late April update.

If we could get the duplicate Eric 0-O'Flaherty deleted in the OOPSS system that would probably be good now.
