Orioles Prospect Report - August 2025
From the August 5th BP article The Heat Check: King of the Hill:
Triple-A
Hot
Sal Stewart, 3B, Cincinnati Reds (Triple-A Louisville): .359 (14-39), 9 R, 6 2B, 3 HR, 9 RBI, 4 BB, 2 K, SB.
Season Stats (Double-A, Triple-A): .305/.372/.494, 14 HR, 15 SB.
Since being drafted 32nd overall in 2022, Stewart has been a hit first prospect, posting a high average but lacking in terms of overall impact. That has changed in 2025 as the now 21-year-old has matured physically, adding strength to his compact swing. Singles have turned into doubles and long fly balls have begun to find their way out of the park. It has translated into career-best power numbers, with Stewart slugging .497 across two levels this year. With Ke’Bryan Hayes under contract for the near future in Cincinnati, third base is blocked. Stewart has seen some time recently at second but the cold corner is likely his ultimate defensive home and he could take over there next season if the Reds decide to move on from Spencer Steer.
Robby Snelling, LHP, Miami Marlins (Triple-A Jacksonville): 12.2 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 0 BB, 18 K.
Season Stats (Double-A, Triple-A): 3.26 ERA, 94 IP, 26 BB, 108 K.
The Marlins held off on moving two of the biggest trade pieces this deadline in Sandy Alcantara and Edward Cabrera, but the emergence of Snelling this season might make it easier for them to pull the trigger on a deal in the offseason. Two factors have contributed to Snelling’s success in 2025, an uptick in the fastball velocity and a tightening up of the overall command. He’s been especially tough on hitters during the second half of the season, allowing just six earned runs and posting a 31/5 K/BB ratio since July 1st.
Low-A
Hot
Caleb Bonemer, SS, Chicago White Sox (Low-A Kannapolis): .485 (16-33), 11 R, 6 2B, HR, 6 RBI, 7 BB, 4 K.
Season Stats (Low-A): .273/.397/.437, 8 HR, 23 SB.
We knew Bonemer had power potential prior to his being drafted 43rd overall in 2024 but he is showing as a professional that he does not need to sacrifice contact to get to the slug. He’s shown a good approach at Kannapolis, limiting the swing-and-miss and controlling the zone well. Bonemer might not have the defensive chops to stick at the six long term but the bat looks like it is more than capable of handling a slide down the defensive spectrum.

Re: Orioles Prospect Report - August 2025
From the August 8 BA article:
Lefthander Robby Snelling has been one of the most effective pitchers in the International League since the Marlins promoted him to Triple-A Jacksonville on July 10. In an Aug. 7 start at Nashville, he struck out 11 batters for the second time in the span of his last three starts. In this outing, the 21-year-old Snelling allowed no runs on five hits while walking only one in six innings. In five IL starts, he has a 1.63 ERA with 34 strikeouts and five walks in 27.2 innings.

Re: Orioles Prospect Report - August 2025
From the August 11 BA MLB Prospect Hot Sheet:
7. Robby Snelling, LHP, Marlins
Team: Triple-A Pensacola (International)
Age: 21
Why He’s Here: 1-0, 0.00, 6 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 11 SO, 0 HR
The Scoop: Snelling has bounced back so much in 2025, he’s perhaps passed his 2023 season. Snelling is now on the cusp of the big leagues, dominating the minors’ highest level. Over five starts at Triple-A, he sports a 1.63 ERA while striking out 32.1% of batters and walking just 4.7%. This week, Snelling was excellent, striking out 11 over six innings and allowing five hits and one walk. He sat 93-95 mph, touching 97 mph at peak, and generating 11 whiffs against his fastball and 10 against his curveball. Snelling mixes four pitches with above-average command, and there’s a good chance he joins the Marlins’ rotation over the last month of the season. (GP)
8. Alex Clemmey, LHP, Nationals
Team: High-A Wilmington (South Atlantic)
Age: 20
Why He’s Here: 1-0, 0.00, 6 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 8 SO, 0 HR
The Scoop: There’s no question that Clemmey has the stuff to drive plenty of swings and misses. There is plenty of doubt, however, about whether he’ll get enough called strikes to stick as a rotation piece. This past week was a point in his favor in that regard. He walked just three over six hitless frames in his most recent turn, but has just eight in a dozen innings this month and 60 in 87.1 innings for the season. Still, he’s plenty young, and his stuff is too wicked to push him onto the reliever track just yet. (JN)
13. Maxton Martin, OF, Rangers
Team: Low-A Hickory (Carolina)
Age: 20
Why He’s Here: .400/.526/1.000 (6-for-15), 6 R, 0 2B, 0 3B, 3 HR, 9 RBIs, 4 BB, 2 SO
The Scoop: Martin is generating plenty of internal buzz within the Rangers organization and has been performing like a potential top 30 organizational prospect. His standout tool is his raw power, already evident in the 12 home runs he’s launched this season. That power does come with some swing-and-miss concerns, but he’s shown enough impact potential to keep evaluators intrigued. As Martin advances through the system, there will be increased pressure for the power to hold—especially with a likely future defensive home in a corner outfield spot or at first base, where offensive production is essential. (JC)

Re: Orioles Prospect Report - August 2025
From the August 11 MLB Pipeline article Here are Sunday's top prospect performances from the Minors:
Carson Williams, SS, Durham (TB No. 1/MLB No. 24)
The Rays' top prospect is in the 20/20 club, and Williams gained entrance for the third consecutive season with his 20th homer of the year at Triple-A. His ninth-inning solo shot capped a two-hit game for Williams, who has hit safely in seven of his last nine games and homered in two straight. He has 21 stolen bases in 27 attempts on the season.
Alex Clemmey, LHP, Wilmington (WSH No. 4)
The 2023 second-round pick was unhittable at High-A over six innings. Clemmey retired 12 of his first 13 hitters and struck out eight, working around three walks and a second-and-third situation in his final frame. The 20-year-old lefty has spent the entire season in the South Atlantic League putting together a fine second season in pro ball. His 113 strikeouts (in 87 1/3 IP) place second and his 2.47 ERA through 19 starts ranks fourth among Sally League hurlers.

Re: Orioles Prospect Report - August 2025
From the August 18 BA MLB Prospect Hot Sheet:
9. Leo De Vries, SS, Athletics
Team: High-A Lansing (Midwest)
Age: 18
Why He’s Here: .381/.435/.905 (8-for-21), 5 R, 1 2B, 2 3B, 2 HR, 6 RBIs, 2 BB, 1 SO
The Scoop: First impressions matter, but for a talent like De Vries, expectations have already been sky-high for the past two seasons. As one of baseball’s most prominent prospects, he came into the spotlight with the tools and pedigree to make a smooth transition to the next level. Since being dealt from the Padres to the A’s at the trade deadline, he’s been electric, showing off the same elite bat-to-ball skills and advanced approach that made him such a coveted asset. (JC)
13. Sal Stewart, 3B, Reds
Team: Triple-A Louisville (International)
Age: 21
Why He’s Here: .364/.481/.773 (8-for-22) 5 R, 3 2B, 2 HR, 8 RBIs, 4 BB, 6 SO
The Scoop: After dominating Double-A, Stewart was asked to show he can handle Triple-A as one of the league’s youngest hitters. So far, he’s looking more than capable of mashing against more experienced pitchers. Stewart is actually doing everything better in Triple-A than Double-A, as he’s upped his walk rate, cut his strikeout rate and hitting for a higher average and more power. Yes, the International League is a much more offensive league than the Southern League, but what Stewart is doing makes it appear that he’s ready to help the Reds in Cincinnati at some point in 2026. (JJ)
20. Robby Snelling, LHP, Marlins
Team: Triple-A Jacksonville (International)
Age: 21
Why He’s Here: 0-1, 0.00, 6 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 9 SO, 0 HR
The Scoop: It’s been a truly remarkable bounce-back season for Snelling, who has returned to the form that won him BA’s 2023 Minor League Pitcher of the Year. Snelling has been electric in Triple-A across six starts, pitching to a 1.34 ERA while striking out 33.3% of batters faced. This week, he was a hard-luck loser despite not allowing an earned run over six innings. It was his fourth consecutive game with at least seven strikeouts. In fact over, Snelling’s last four starts, he’s struck out 38 batters to three walks. (GP)

Re: Orioles Prospect Report - August 2025
From the BA MLB Prospects Wire:
August 19, 2025
Warming Bernabel Walks Off Dodgers
Warming Bernabel’s hot start to his MLB career isn’t slowing down. In a clutch moment against the Dodgers at home, the 23-year-old homegrown prospect delivered the biggest swing of his young career, lacing a walk-off single up the middle off lefthander Justin Wrobleski. The hit brought Ezequiel Tovar home and ignited a celebration at Coors Field following the 4-3 win. Bernabel’s first career walk-off hit is a fitting milestone for a player quickly making his presence felt in the big leagues. Colorado’s No. 9 prospect is slashing .301/.326/.542 with four homers over his first 22 MLB games.
August 17, 2025
Rays’ Carson Williams Homers Again
Triple-A Durham shortstop Carson Williams has struggled to make contact this year, but when he does connect, he’s doing plenty of damage. Williams went 3-for-4 with a triple and his 22nd home run of the season on Sunday. It was his fifth home run in 15 games this month.
Williams is hitting .214/.317/.444 overall this year, and he’s striking out 34% of the time. But he has shown some improvement as the season has worn on. He’s hitting .250/.352/.534 since June 1, and his 16 home runs are tied for the fifth most in the minors over that stretch.

Re: Orioles Prospect Report - August 2025
From the August 19 BP article The Heat Check: Can Snelling Sniff the Majors?:
AAA
Hot
Robby Snelling, RHP, Miami Marlins (Triple-A Jacksonville): 12 IP, 8 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 20 K.
Season Stats (Double-A, Triple-A): 2.89 ERA, 106 IP, 29 BB, 128 K.
For as good as Snelling was earlier in the month, he’s been even better lately. He has dominated the International League since being promoted in early July, allowing just five earned runs in his 33 innings of work at Jacksonville. He’s commanding all pitches well and every part of the repertoire grades out as above average except for the change. Snelling is major-league ready and there is a chance we see him in Miami before the end of the season. If the call-up doesn’t happen, he’s the obvious choice to fill the rotation spot that will likely be left void when Cal Quantrill’s contract expires this winter.
Sal Stewart, 3B, Cincinnati Reds (Triple-A Louisville): .361 (13-36), 6 R, 6 2B, 2 HR, 9 RBI, 8 BB, 9 K.
Season Stats (Double-A, Triple-A): .311/.382/.513, 16 HR, 16 SB.

Re: Orioles Prospect Report - August 2025
From the August 20 BA article 10 Top 100 Prospects Who Coaches, Scouts Loved In 2025:
Double-A Standouts
Sal Stewart, 3B, Reds
Entering the season, Reds third baseman Sal Stewart had produced for two consecutive seasons but was still divisive within scouting circles.
The 2022 supplemental first-rounder had shown an advanced hit tool and discerning batting eye, but his power was not befitting of his frame or his corner infield profile. Stewart delivered strong results across both levels of Class A, but questions remained for many evaluators.
This year, things have changed. Stewart began to tap into more of his raw power in games, showing the potential for 25-plus home runs with advanced batting skills.
Stewart hit .306/.377/.473 in 80 games for Double-A Chattanooga to earn a promotion to Triple-A by the all-star break.
Stewart’s ability to hit for power in games while limiting strikeouts is his superpower. He has run a swinging-strike rate of 9.8%, while posting an average exit velocity of 92.5 mph.
Very few hitters make as much hard contact as frequently as Stewart without being susceptible to higher swing-and-miss rates.
Stewart is the type of player who can beat you in multiple ways and was voted Best Batting Prospect, Best Defensive Third Baseman and Most Exciting Player in Southern League Best Tools voting.

Re: Orioles Prospect Report - August 2025
From the August 19 BA article 10 Top MLB Prospects With Outstanding 2025 Hitting Data:
Caleb Bonemer, SS, White Sox
While some may have jumped ship on Bonemer after a bad month of June, things turned around for him in July, and the 2024 second-round draft pick has ended up as one of the best hitters in Low-A this season.
Bonemer has been outstanding throughout 2025, showing plus bat-to-ball skills and strong on-base ability. His one nit to pick is he can get overly passive at times, taking too many pitches over the heart of the plate. Swinging a little more wouldn’t be the worst idea for Bonemer, who not only shows the aforementioned contact skills but also a high level of contact quality.
Bonemer also shows potential for plus power, as evidenced by exit velocities two deviations above the standard for his age/level and an elite PullAir%. Overall, he has handled one of the worst hitting environments in the Carolina League this year and passed with flying colors.

Re: Orioles Prospect Report - August 2025
From the August 20 BA MLB Prospects Wire:
Reds’ Sal Stewart Continues To Impress In Triple-A
Entering 2025, no one doubted the Sal Stewart’s ability to hit. Hitting for power, however, was another story for the Reds prospect. But he has erased those questions by continuing to show newfound in-game power. Stewart belted his 17th home run of the season on Wednesday, clobbering a ball 401 feet off Brewers Triple-A lefty Tate Kuehner. Stewart has dominated Triple-A competition during his first tour through the level with impressive advanced hitting skills and power.

Re: Orioles Prospect Report - August 2025
From the August 21 BA MLB Prospects Wire:
Robby Snelling Strikes Out Eight Over Six Shutout Frames
Triple-A Jacksonville lefthander Robby Snelling continued his run of quality starts in the International League, extending his streak to six in a row, with six shutout innings in Game 1 of a doubleheader at Worcester on Aug. 21. He struck out eight, walked three and allowed four hits. Snelling generated strikeouts on three pitch types: four with his curveball, three with his four-seam fastball and one with his changeup. In seven starts for Jacksonville, Snelling has a 1.13 ERA in 39.2 innings with 51 strikeouts and 10 walks. Opponents are hitting .203.
Caleb Bonemer Belts Ninth Home Run For Kannapolis
Low-A Kannapolis shortstop Caleb Bonemer belted his ninth home run of the season as part of a 3-for-5 night at Delmarva that raised his OPS to a Carolina League-leading .857. The White Sox 2024 second-rounder hit a double to left field that one-hopped the wall in the third inning and then homered deep to left in the fifth. He added an infield hit in the seventh. Bonemer is hitting .282/.404/.453 in 94 games.
Report: Rays To Call Up SS Carson Williams
ESPN’s Jeff Passan is reporting that the Rays will call up shortstop Carson Williams, the team’s top prospect.
The move is one of necessity. The Rays have run out of healthy shortstops. Rays’ starting shortstop Taylor Walls is out until September with a groin strain. Jose Caballero, the main backup this year, was traded to the Yankees at the deadline. Utilityman Richie Palacios is on an injury rehab assignment as he returns from a right knee sprain. Shortstop Ha-Seong Kim was scratched on Wednesday with back tightness. That left Tristan Gray as the Rays’ only shortstop on Wednesday night.
Williams, ranked No. 74 on the Top 100, is exceptional defensively, and he has made strides at the plate after a brutal start to the season. Williams is hitting .213/.318/.447 this year, but with 23 home runs and 22 steals. He’s hit .241/.362/.586 in August with six home runs in just 17 games.

Re: Orioles Prospect Report - August 2025
From the August 25 BA MLB Prospect Hot Sheet:
2. Alfredo Duno, C, Reds
Team: Low-A Dayton (Florida State)
Age: 19
Why He’s Here: .500/.600/1.417 (6-for-12), 4 R, 2 2B, 0 3B, 3 HR, 6 RBIs, 3 BB, 1 SO
The Scoop: The bat has never been in question for Duno, as his talent at the plate was always evident. The issue was staying healthy long enough to prove it over a full season. But now, with 103 games under his belt, he’s finally had the opportunity to put it all together. And he’s delivered. Duno is showing that the offensive tools weren’t just flashes of potential—they’re real, sustainable and impactful over the long haul. He’s flexed his power with 14 homers so far and has walked as many times (85) as he’s struck out. (JC)
14. Sal Stewart, 3B, Reds
Team: Triple-A Louisville (International)
Age: 21
Why He’s Here: .278/.391/.778 (5-for-18) 6 R, 3 HR, 7 RBIs, 4 BB, 6 SO, 1 SB
The Scoop: It’s fair to start wondering if Stewart should be given a shot to DH for the Reds as they make their run at a playoff spot, as he’s posted a 1.052 OPS in Triple-A after 33 games. As a pure hitter who also happens to have power, his ability to generate hard contact with very few strikeouts makes him more capable of moving quickly to the majors than a hitter who just swings hard at everything and hopes to make some contact. (JJ)
16. Jaron DeBerry, RHP, Brewers
Team: Double-A Biloxi (Southern)
Age: 22
Why He’s Here: 1-0, 0.00, 7 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 9 SO, 0 HR
The Scoop: A third-round pick out of Dallas Baptist in 2024, DeBerry has quietly had an excellent season across three levels. So far in Double-A, DeBerry has not slowed down. He’s ridden his high-spin curveball and lower-launch fastball to success. This week, DeBerry spun seven scoreless innings against Chattanooga, striking out nine and allowing four hits and no walks. DeBerry shows pitchability and intriguing traits, so some added velocity will likely go a long way to sustaining this success in the long term. (GP)
