For a young team not super interested in competing this year, Carpenter is a luxury not a necessity.

He got a 118 ops+ and, miraculously only a -1 def rating. He's still just 27 and his MLB career ops+ is 135 (785 ab's, 44 hr's!). His sim ops+ vs. rhp is ~125 this season.

Looking for younger players for someone that will comfortably sit in the middle of your lineup for 2/3rds of your games for the next 8 years.
