Pretty cool article, obviously the rankings are somewhat arbitrary, but the writeups are great. I had no idea Wilt had such a great season that year, ridiculous in fact.

Wilt's numbers are a bit skewed though, considering there was no one in the league who was even close to his height, and there was no offensive goaltending, a rule which was implemented because of Wilt. Not to take anything away from Wilt, considering he forced the league to change the rules of the game, but that could be why so many of his statistics are untouchable.

Give me th big O, Oscar Robertson. I loved the line at the end. Tak Tim Duncan's best statistical season and double it. That's Oscar.

Actually that's Wilt moron...

Oscar's the guy the we currently hold J-Kidd and LeBron up to...hell of an effort though...

My bad on the quote. Still the best IMO... and certainly the most underrated.

You want to know the people who underrate Oscar Robertson? The people who don't know anything about basketball, or the "Michael Jordan" fan ("Basketball didn't exist before Michael Jordan"). People who started rooting in the Magic/Larry era know the Big O, because he was the yardstick that those guys were held to - before they started to win every championship the 80's had to offer...

Every combo guard or point forward who scores points, grabs some boards, and dishes is compared to Oscar - just as every guard who scores from all over is compared to Michael, every match-up problem forward is compared to Bernard King, every center is compared to either Moses or Kareem, and every stroker is compared to your West's or Barry's...

You want to know why people don't compare anyone to Chamberlain? It's because you can't - that guy was a force of nature like we haven't seen before or since...

I like to consider myself a pretty educated sports fan, so I'm in shock that I never knew Wilt had a season that good. Its unbelievable. I don't care what excuses you make for him or his competition, those numbers are incredible. Double Tim Duncan's best? That's just sick.

The average Joe on the street will have heard of Wilt Chamberlain. They'll have heard of Bill Russell. My money would say they won't have heard of Oscar Robertson.

You apparently aren't familiar with people older than 25 or people who like basketball...if you are, they know who he is...Hell my ex-girlfriend whose sole interest in basketball is the Celtics referenced him when I mentioned that J-Kidd was having quite the triple-double of a season...

The late '90's and the early '00's saw the massive influx of singularly skilled players - shoot first point guards, three point specialist shooting guards, put-back centers, and back to the basket power forwards. The Kidd's, Nash's, Paul's, LeBron's, Howard's, Garnett's, etc. have led a tremendous push towards versatility being key to remain in the league. This versatility has led to the rebirth of of recognizing the Oscar's, Moses', King's of yesteryear.
