This is a great deal for the Sox. I didn't think offering Schilling $13m was a wise move and thought 10 plus 3m in incentives seemed pretty reasonable for someone his age and with his performance and injury history. the Sox went one better and gave him the deal above. I think it's a great deal and will make sure Curt shows up in shape to play.Curt Schilling will have a chance to match the $13 million he earned last season under the terms of his deal with the Red Sox.
Schilling gets $8 million guaranteed and a chance to earn $3 million in incentives based on innings pitched and another $2 million if he meets weight requirements. One of the big reasons the Red Sox were unwilling to extend him last spring is because he showed up to camp overweight. Schilling admitted to the problem later on and has good reason not to let it happen again.
