Tommy John List

Post by Athletics »

So here is the list for 2014

http://www.sportsgrid.com/mlb/the-unrea ... -for-2014/

Let us see if 2015 surpasses it.

So far we have Joel Hanrahan and Shae Simmons.

Potentials that can be confirmed later are Gavin Floyd, Cliff Lee, Tim Collins, and Yu Darvish.

None so far :)

But the ones I will worry about are the relapses of Bundy or Taillon.

Jose Fernandez beats any 4 who had it last year.

Dr. James Andrews determined that Cliff Lee has a tear in the common flexor tendon in his left elbow.
In other words, it's the same injury from last year and matches the initial diagnosis from the weekend. Lee will try to throw through it to see if his condition improves, but surgery would sideline him for 6-8 months. Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro, Jr. isn't optimistic about his chances of avoiding surgery, so it's beginning to look like he won't pitch at all this season. Lee is owed $25 million this season and has a $12.5 million buyout on his 2016 club option.

Pirates righty Brandon Cumpton underwent Tommy John surgery today, GM Neal Huntington told reporters including Bill Brink of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette (via Twitter). The procedure had seemed a possibility since Cumpton went in to visit Dr. James Andrews last week.

The 26-year-old had been set to function as a useful depth piece for the Bucs after throwing 100 2/3 MLB innings in a swingman capacity over the last two seasons. Cumpton racked up a 4.02 ERA with 6.1 K/9 against 2.1 BB/9 over that run, which included 15 starts and seven relief appearances, but has been even better at Triple-A.
Dr. David Altcheck recommended that Yu Darvish (elbow) undergo Tommy John surgery.
Crushing news for the Rangers. He's still going to get a third opinion from Dr. James Andrews, but all signs point to Darvish having the surgery. General manager Jon Daniels said that the pitcher is "likely heading down the road" to surgery. Darvish has been one of the best pitchers in baseball since arriving in the States and Daniels probably said it best on Tuesday, when he told the media, "No sugarcoating it, it stinks." Assuming he undergoes the surgery, Darvish will miss the entire 2015 season and could even get a late start next year.

I meant by quantity not quality but 4/5 of a rotation (since I was going to start Hochevar) might be greater than an ace.

Matt Harvey says Hi, although I guess he had the surgery in 2013.

Not all TJ but I've got three on the shelf (Simmons, Cliff Lee and Minor) 1.5 weeks into spring training.

Since it has been awhile since horrible news has fallen, let us take a look at some potential upcoming ones.

Burch Smith to undergo TJ.

Matt Cain with the potential as he undergoes an MRI

Ty Hensley for the Yankees

Obviously everyone heard about Aiken.

But what about Lewis Thorpe

or Mike Mateulla

or Aaron Crow

I think we are on pace to out do 2014 before the end of April.

They are really starting to add up much quicker this year.

Yankees prospect (and probably the next IBC Oriole to get released) Ty Hensley apparently underwent the knife in April.

Had health questions the day he was drafted, and in the 42 MiLB innings he's thrown over the past 3 years he's looked very solid. Poor guy also got beat up pretty badly by some NFL draftee punk before last season, but always sounds positive and upbeat in his quotes.

Well it's new to me, lol. Names are added so often that they're easy to miss.
