Dustin Pedroia

Need a ruling:

Dustin Pedroia could undergo season-ending surgery on his left hand.
We already knew that he may be shut down for the season, but the news that he could have an operation is new information. Pedroia admitted that his hand/wrist has been bothering him for essentially the entire season, which would help explain his disappointing .278/.337/.376 batting line with just seven homers. His numbers were also down in 2013 due to a left thumb issue that he eventually had surgery for. Pedroia noted that if he does elect to have surgery, the procedure wouldn't be as invasive as the last one and he'd have a normal offseason.

He's been playing up until now...this seems like a precautionary move. Eligible.

The fact that he may get surgery sort of makes me more iffy than I'd normally be, but, if the Red Sox were alive, there's no way he'd be considering surgery. He's played with it for most of the year, so he's in for me.

Yeah, surgery makes him out. Ditto Brad Ziegler for Jake, who underwent microfx.

Yeah, with the surgery, I'll revise my position (although, devil's advocating here, would he have necessarily gotten the surgery now if the Red Sox had been in contention?)
