Hey guys.. we all know things can get pretty stagnant in the offseason during lead up time to the draft and post draft.

I posted an idea for the post draft "revocable waivers" as an idea to help keep interest and activity up during the offseason.

But Z and I had another conversation a few weeks ago about the possibility of holding a mock draft. During discussion, we talked about doing a draft to kind of gauge where the market is at - but we also discussed not wanting to give away everyone's complete strategy. So we thought, why not do a mock with a twist - we each draft for someone else's squad.

What do you say? I think it would be easy to throw together, we just need to assign teams initially, but then we could hold a mock draft in a forum thread and it would sustain itself pretty much.

Thoughts?

Seems like we struggle enough as it is keeping people engaged in the actual draft that it would be even harder to have full participation in a mock draft.

I was thinking the other day about setting up an "Arizona Fall League" where maybe we can play some of the younger guys that have projections but wouldn't be a starter on a decent MLB team just yet. Maybe make like an age 25 cut off and then make a limit to the highest allowed projected WAR per 600 PA's or 200 IP's (to avoid having players like Mike Trout and Bryce Harper in it). Maybe just see how many teams would be interested and then have a little draft with all players that are eligable.

I don't know if you're going to get a ton of hits on this, but I don't think a mock draft gives away strategy really. If I were to do something like this, I wouldn't draft any differently whether it was for myself or someone else.

I love ideas to keep people engaged/improve the league, as you know, but I don't think the mock draft would be that great. We sorta take a long time to get some of the outlying members to stay on task with the regular draft. Doing another (in the middle of holiday season) would be tricky.

I kinda like an AFL type league. Maybe a 25 and younger mini tournament? Could we all field a team of 9 hitters and 5-6 pitchers with projections to play some type of bracket? That would be cool if we could make it work/JP wants to do some extra simming....

I'm all for you guys having fun and doing fun stuff in the winter, but I am not going to do any simming in the winter. It's my vacation.

Ok, back to your regular discussion now.

If we do a fall league, it would be cool if we could make it all H2H and just track the records outside of DMB. Maybe match up teams for a 2-4 game series each week, ie: Team A plays Team B in week 1, split the series home/away and gives managers of Teams A and B a whole week to figure out when they could both be available for H2H.

Let's say we get 8 teams willing to participate. That's 7 weeks, potentially 28 games per team.

I produced a list of players I think would qualify for this hypothetical AFL. We could see who all signs up and if we want to do it where any player that's on your IBC team that also qualifies you automatically get to have, and then the rest of your team we'll draft. For example, I see Dorssys Paulino and Mikie Mahtook on the list, so I'd have them on my team.

Yeah, draft players from teams that aren't competing. To make it quicker/easier, you could draft teams as a whole, since AFL teams are sort of combined, then you could pick players off that particular team to have. Or something.

Yea, another idea I had was that if we could get 6 GMs, we could pick AFL teams. So for instance, if you were the Scottsdale Scorpions, you'd get to pick players from Atlanta Braves, New York Mets, New York Yankees, Pittsburgh Pirates, San Francisco Giants. And we could decide if we want to pick from the IBC teams or from the MLB teams.

Like that better. I only have like 9 eligible young players.

AFL starts Oct 7, but we could wait until after our playoffs (and MLB playoffs) and use the same schedule as the actual AFL.

Could also do AFL but nominate a team from within division. So an ALE,, ALC, ALW team, NLC NLE and NLW team.. each division can put their collective heads together and put together their AFL team..

Interesting idea. We'll get a feel for how many teams are interested. As long as we have at least 1 representative from each division that could work.

So for example, in the ALW here - Stephen, The Rev, Ropers, Perryman, and myself would get together - and put forth the best roster we can that fit whatever it is the AFL roster requirements will be.

So on and so forth for all divisions. Whoever wants to play h2h or manage or what have you, thats up to the divisions.

While I'd be interesting in helping put together an AFL roster, I don't much time or desire to play h2h with said roster.

Wait...would we have Nils or Hamlin for this year? Hamlin has already being referring to himself as SF for a bit now.

I'd assume as soon as the WS is over, we'll consider ourselves re-aligned since who will give a shit about 2014 anymore aside from whoever just won the WS?

IDK.. maybe re-alignment gets done before the AFL? Alignment shouldn't take long..

Well, AFL wouldn't be the most official thing ever. I think we could throw together whatever rosters each group hands us no matter when the ExCo says the change is official.
