i'm just fucking miserable. at least in 2003 they came to play. there was a real belief that they could win the whole damn thing. this year was joke. A-Ram - choker. Soriano - choker. DeRosa - choker.

Glad to see the money was well spent. Oh, and thanks DLee for those few hits you got. Those bases empty two out singles really came in handy.

Oh, and way to go Lilly. You really brought your A game against a lineup who's best hitter went .286 for the season.

Anyway, this is adding up to be a nightmare for MLB. Rocks/Dbacks and Indians/Red Sox. If the Indians somehow get passed the Red Sox Bud Selig might shoot himself. That might actually make me feel better.

That's one way to look at it. On the other hand, you guys improved 6000000 games from last year and Pinellia's extra carefulness is a nice contrast to Dusty's pitch them til Grady Little and Jack McKeon agree they should come out philosophy. Methinks the result of this series would have been different if it was a healthy Prior/Wood/Zambrano 1-2-3 rotation.

I just hope the Rockies win it all...it'll be a much bigger story than the Mets collapse.

Now that the Phillies showed their true colors, once the Yanks are out the papers can move onto other sports and hot stove rumors.

If a team like the Rockies win it all, then everyone just shruggs their sholders, labels it a fluke season, and moves on.

That's what I hate about the media. If its not Yanks/Sox/Mets, it doesn't matter. I'm pulling for the Rockies in the NL and the Indians in the AL

I'm not even sure the Mets matter on the same scale nationally as the Yanks/Sox. I think the Cubs are higher up because of their curse thing, and whatever team Barry Bonds happens to be on next year just because its Bonds, but either way the Yanks/Sox are the only teams that can compete with football.

I'm definitely rooting for the Rockies (though not against the Sox of course). I got to see quite a few Rockies games this summer and they gave both Boston and NY whompings in IL play, they may not be a 'great' team but they're fun and exciting.

this is a broncos town for sure.. but we love our baseball too. those early days at mile high with sold out crowds of 88000 were nuts.. we just won't blindly tolerate losing year in & year like cubbie fans.

Hats off to the Colorado Rockies players, who had the holiday spirit a month early. The National League champions voted a full share of their playoff earnings ñ which amounted to $233,505, to Mandy Coolbaugh, the widow of minor league coach Mike Coolbaugh. Coolbaugh, who never played for the Rockies (but coached for the Tulsa Drillers, a team in the Rockies' system), was killed by a line drive while coaching first base during a game in July in Arkansas.

Coolbaugh was a first-year coach after a long playing career in the minors, so it was not as if he had a lot to do with the Rockies' success. But their generosity will be great for a family that lost its breadwinner.

"That's a matter between the players and Mandy," Rockies general manager Dan O'Dowd told Yahoo. "I will say it almost brought tears to my eyes. Ö They didn't do that for you guys [the media] to find out."

Any player who was on the roster for the whole season is automatically given a full share. The players then vote on other people who deserve full or partial shares of the playoff money. Teams often give shares to support personnel, such as clubhouse managers, traveling secretaries and even the grounds crew.

The players' share is based on 60 percent of the gate receipts from the first three games of each division series and the first four games of the league championship series and World Series. The full pot, which amounted to $18.89 million, is then split among the eight teams that participate in the postseason. It's a nice bonus for the winning teams, and every player makes the same, whether it's a big-money star or a utility infielder.

The Red Sox had the largest share as the World Series winner, voting 47 full shares, 14 partial shares and 11 cash awards. A full share was worth $308,236.

The LCS losers had shares of $139,460 (Diamondbacks) and $107,458 (Indians). The difference in the total is because the Indians voted out more shares than the Diamondbacks did. Full shares were worth $31,594 for the Angels, $28,058 for the Phillies, $26,304 for the Yankees (that's what, 1 tenth of one percent of Alex Rodriguez's earnings for the season?) and $24,508 for the Cubs.
