Now, I have no pony in the race here, but if I'm a visiting player and I reach into the stands to try and make a play. If the home teams fan makes the play and I don't my next move wouldn't be to shove the home teams fan in the chest. Fact of the matter is, you are fair game if you go into the stands on the road while trying to make a play. What did he expect? The other teams fans to get out of the way and help him make the play?

I can't say that Matt Adams did not get a fair response from the fan. Not classy or creative by any means, but fair. He probably deserved a double Dick Bennett instead of just the single for shoving the fan.

Just my 2 cents.

I assume he'll get a fine or small suspension for the "shove", but as a Cards fan that grew up in Cincinnati, that's a pretty typical response. Any time I go to GABP, I usually get plenty of swearing in my direction, food thrown on me, middle fingers... etc. Honestly I've always been treated 100x better at Wrigley, and Cubs/Cards is actually a real rivalry.

I like the fact that they do that. Better than pansy Red Sox fans who talk crap all the time, and then you wear Yankees gear to Fenway and don't say a peep. As long as no one's hurt, what's a little mustard in the hair to play up the rivalry?

Listening to Mike & Mike explain this on ESPN this morning was everything I love about both of them...it was awesome.

Every time I've went to a game at GABP it is about 33-40% Cards fans. I've never dealt with people yelling at me because there's usually nobody around me due to how empty the place tends to be. Two years ago there were a couple of sections of the upper deck that had maybe 10 people in them

If the play is in the stands, it is not interference. It is not in the field of play.

Home field fans better damn well stop a visiting player from making an out on your home team if the ball is out of the field of play (ie. up in the stands). If they don't those home fans should be thrown out.

Maybe you haven't followed baseball that long? Because that is not interference. Like I said.. Crying.. Whining.. It's the Cardinal Way.

Legally not interference, but catches can be made over the wall, so it still was interference. I don't really care if he catches it or not, but he did stop Adams from making a catch, and then in turn gave him a one finger salute while honey boo-boo next to him started mouthing off.

I'm not crying or whining, I just thought it was a pretty funny reaction worth sharing. Accusing the Cardinals of whining and crying is the Reds way... whenever they're paying attention long enough to do so...

So you think Adams was within his rights and it was a good idea to shove the fan after HE went into the stands, while on the road, at a division rivals stadium? Now, we have no idea what the fan said to Adams after Adams didn't make the play and I'm sure it wasn't anything pleasant, but Adams has to expect that kind of a response when he goes into the stands on the road. Adams shoving the fan was just stupid.

No, I agree, he'll probably get a punishment for it since MLB is pretty clear that they don't condone any physical contact with fans, but it was still hardly a shove, and resulted in about the most stereotypical response I can imagine in Cincinnati.

I think you'd probably see that kind of reaction from fans in most of the ballparks in the league if a visiting player came into the stands and shoved them. Yeah, it wasn't classy......but it wasn't really a surprising response either.

Seriously, the player went into the stands, didn't make the play, shoved a fan, got flipped off by home team fans. Welcome to professional sports in America. It is a non-event.
