Minnesota Football Stadium

I've had the opportunity the last few months to work on a tiny piece of this project and as a sports fan, architect and taxpayer I have to wonder.
What?
The?
Fuck?

First of all, why does this thing look like... well, I don't even know what to think about what it looks like. I do know that the cracked out design is extra pricey. Actually, I do know what it reminds me of. The hideous and completely character lacking arena formerly known as the Fleet/Bankboston/"your name here" Center in Boston. This stadium is going to be an ugly, featureless mass from most angles.
Then there's the skylight that covers half the roof. Because the shadows that costs on the field aren't going to be a distraction somehow?

Finally, we get to my favorite part. The reason I'm posting here today. If you look through that roof skylight, you can see that one face of the far side is glazed. That's good, as the facade needs to be broken up from the mass of gray it will be otherwise.
What's not good is that it's not a curtain wall of glass. Those are actually glass doors that rotate open.

Let me say that again. 80+' tall doors that open like louvers.

WHY!?!?!?!?!?

Why would anyone design something like that? Why would the Vikings want it? Why would the taxpayers (or anyone) sign off on paying for it? 1. It's a stupid idea. 2. It's ridiculously expensive to design and build. 3. It's a stupid idea. 4. It's going to break and be expensive to maintain. 5. It's a stupid idea!

Okay, I'm done now. I just really, really needed to rant about this stupid design. As exciting as it is to be working on a football stadium (even a tiny it of it) the thrill has been completely sucked out of it by being a spectacularly stupid design. Minnesotans, my apologies and condolences.[/img]

pretty much all football stadiums are ugly as shit IMO

It looks like they designed a normal stadium and then spent a ton of money dropping a weird box on it. They need to get over it, all football stadiums are ugly, make it cost efficient with lots of good sight lines and luxury boxes.

80' doors...you know, because we have weather that demands that we be able to open the stadium up for good portions of the football season.

I would tend to agree, that for the most part football stadiums are pretty ugly. Example #1, see Phoenix Cardinals stadium, ugh! That is suppose to be a cactus??? wtf? It looks like a broken space ship!

That said, I have to give Paul Allen's organization some credit.....they did a pretty darn good job with Century Link (th CLink) Field. Great sight lines of the City out the north end. Doesn't look like a total albatross in the City, like other projects (yes, I'm looking at you City of Seattle Library).
