2014 Update

I emailed DMB asking for the ZiPS disc release date, and got the usual run around -- no guarantee that it'll come out since a third party is creating the projections. I asked the ZiPS Man and he said it will come out, and they usually finalize their deal in mid-March.
This leads me to believe that we'll probably be looking at the same time frame this year as we have in recent years -- probably getting the sim season underway in mid April, and simming two (sometimes three) times a day to catch up. Hopefully they'll surprise me and get us the disc sooner, but have to be realistic. Either way, it's just around a month before our season starts, and that's exciting.

He said on Twitter last night that he doesn't even have the D ratings done yet, so since today is opening day I'd say don't expect it anytime soon. At least last year, the D was up by 2/17. Don't know why DMB couldn't MP opening day line-ups for replay guys and release it in time for all the sim leagues to start on schedule.

Platoon splits are out at least. I'm still hopeful we'll get it around Easter, but we'll see.

How can they not have their product ready for opening day every year? It's not like it sneaks up on them.

Are there other options out there besides ZiPS? Like could Steamer or Oliver or PECOTA (does that still exist?) work in DMB?

Nope.
The biggest challenge is the translation of the data into a DMB database. Nobody else does it because there isn't enough of a market to be worth the time it would take. I was working on an 'open source' system several years ago when DMB first decided not to make projections any more. Then ZiPS stepped in so everyone went with that.

Good question, ask Szymborski. Good luck with that.

So....everyone get you $30 ready to buy the new software and be able to submit MP's. I would settle for updates to exporting box scores to a .doc format

Yeah -- if DMB upgrades to v11 in time for our season, we will be doing the same. We wouldn't do a mid-season switch, though.

I'd feel better about spending money on their product if we could actually start a DMB season on time.

So, does this mean we'll be running v10 this season?

It'll be v10 this year - probably a swap over next year as it doesn't appear they're ready for release of v11 yet.

Can someone point me toward the rules that will tell me how I have to deal with my DLed/injured players?

There is a tab under the pennants on the top of the screen that says "rules"

If a player starts the season on the DL -- out for two weeks. If at any time a player is on the DL, he must sit out 2 weeks in the IBC, even if his stay is backdated and he only missed 5 days.
If a player was placed on the DL April 8, you may use him for the first two weeks of the season. Then when it is time to sim games beginning on April 14, the player must be disabled for at least two weeks.
If a player was placed on the DL April 3, then he can play the first week of the sim season, and must come off for games beginning April 7.
Players can only come off the disabled list on Mondays. It just makes it easier to police. Our injury week is Sunday through Saturday. We do not sim on Mondays (except when playing catch up), so during the regular season, I'll send the database out Sunday night, you'll have two days to adjust your MP for when I sim on Tuesday -- players placed on the DL prior to 11:59 p.m. ET that week must go on the DL for the following week here.
