Brett Gardner, Boone Logan

Post by Cardinals »

Both are Reds in the IBC and both Yankees in real life.

Latest on Logan:
Boone Logan had to stop a game of catch Thursday after just five throws when he felt discomfort in his left elbow.
It's obviously not a good sign. Logan was given a cortisone shot a couple days ago, but it hasn't helped. It's not clear whether he'll undergo more tests, but his season is certainly in jeopardy. Sep 12 - 11:49 PM

Boone Logan has reported no improvement in his left elbow since being given a cortisone shot.
So the Yankees have sent his medicals to Dr. James Andrews for further review. Logan underwent an MRI earlier this week on his elbow that showed only inflammation. Sep 10 - 5:56 PM

Latest on Gardner:

Brett Gardner will travel to New York to undergo an MRI on his left oblique.
Gardner tweaked his oblique on a check swing in the first inning of Thursday's game. It's certainly an injury that could end his season, but more should be known after the exam is performed. Sep 12 - 11:44 PM

Brett Gardner has been diagnosed with a strained left oblique.
Gardner suffered the injury on a check swing in the first inning of Thursday's game. It's usually a 2-3 week injury, at minimum, so there's a good chance the outfielder's season is over if the Yankees don't make the postseason. If that's the case, Gardner would end it batting .273 with eight home runs and 24 stolen bases. Sep 12 - 9:25 PM

Tricky situations, and we don't need to make a decision today, but they're worth monitoring. I won't vote on either of them.

Logan should be shut down. Gardner I lean towards shutting down until proven he can play

Yeah I agree on both. Gardner will likely be the tough call since he may come back as pinch runner, in which case he'll be eligible again.

Logan: "I think he ruled out until we say otherwise,” Cashman said. “If you go zero to 10, zero being down and out, and 10 being fully recovered, he hit zero the other day. He’s still stuck at zero. I don’t think he’s made any progress."

Gardner: Brett Gardner was diagnosed with a Grade 1 strain of his left oblique.
While things could have been worse, Yankees manager Joe Girardi acknowledged that Gardner will be out for "a while." It's possible he'll miss the rest of the regular season. And even he does make it back, he will likely be limited to pinch-running.

Ken wants to know what the ruling on Gardner is. He was diagnosed with the Grade 1 oblique strain two weeks ago, and hasn't played since. It's really impossible to say whether or not he'd play for the Yanks. I won't vote on it as aforementioned, but Ken would like a ruling before the WCG and LDS.

I think I'd say out. There wasn't even a hint that he might be able to help them out in a crucial series with Tampa.
